I'm thinking of a 2 week break in argentina in May, is this a good time to go? I like nice weather :)

Also anybody any suggestions for a rough itinerary?

Buenos Aires and Igazu falls i imagine are esssentials.

Is it worth taking in Rio on the way out/home also.

    Thanks

Depends on what you want to do. May will be coming into winter there, remember!

You could easily spend 2 weeks in BA alone. Bear in mind the scale of the country - you can take internal flights that take 4 hours!

The usual places to visit are as follows:

Missiones: The missions built by the Jesuits, as seen in the film, 'The Mission' (quite a good film, lots of Irish actors in it too).
Iguazu: Big waterfall. That's about all there is there though. Well, there's the triple frontier too if you want to pop into Brazil for a minute or something, but not much to do there AIUI.

Barriloche: A skiing resort in the Andes. Might be interesting for you but perhaps too early for snow?

Puerto Madryn: A Welsh area a few hundred miles south of BA, famous for whale watching.

Mendoza: Wine country - visit a winery, that sort of thing.

El Califate: An interesting glacier in the Andes. Good for out-doorsy types probably.

Ushaia: The most southerly city in the world, down in Tierra Del Fuego. Intersting scenery; penguins, sea-lions and whales to be seen. Very cold.

Gaucho-type stuff: Go somewhere in the Pampas and pretend to be a cowboy for a bit.

As I said, you could easily spend the whole 2 weeks in BA exploring different areas and doing different stuff every day and you'd never be bored.

I have been down in Patagonia and winter probably aint the best time of year to go there. I was there in early November (their spring) and there was still plenty of snow around. Made trekking the NP parks (Fitzroy and Torres del Paine in Chile) fun though.

The glacier near El Calafate is Perito Moreno was amazing if only to hear the sound it makes as it creaks and breaks before you. A must visit if your in that part of the world.

There is usually plenty of football games to go in Buenos Aires aswell. Clausura part of the season should still be running in May...
