Traffic Lights on Blanchardstown roundabout

With the N3/M50 interfchange up and running, is there a need for traffic lights on the roundabout anymore?

From what I've noticed the traffic is now very light on this roundabout, and removing the lights would speed up things for all commuters.

Yes, there is a need. The lights were out on it one afternoon last week when I was passing through. The result was a tailback outbound from the turnoff for the gym, through the roundabout, back towards Auburn Avenue. Traffic therefore couldn't get from the M50 northbound to the N3 inbound or Blanchardstown village.

To be honest, I was skeptical when I discovered the junction wasn't being made freeflow, but it seems to be working pretty well.

Fair enough. Although it is working well even with the lights and you're not waiting as long anymore. I hadn't factored in the 2 sets of lights for the hospital and Blanchardstown village...which, as you say can cause tailbacks.

when you're going outbound and just arrive at the roundabout too many people are breaking the red light coming from your right. it's a ****ing joke. we should put some red light jump cameras in or something, if we have such a thing in this country.

the same applys at the auburn junction with people coming from the travellodge and from auburn. red means ****ing red. they should extend these light times a little more i think.
