Sutcliffe, now 64, received 20 life terms for the murder of 13 women and the attempted murder of others in Yorkshire and Manchester. I think he has served his time and should be set free. Everyone deserves a second chance even him.

He got his second chance after he killed the first person. He'd be out by now. There's a reason scum like him are kept locked up. They don't change.

    Ok.

I have serious problems when someone who has harmed/sexually abused some gets released from jail after 10 years (or whatever the gammy sentencing here is) but jesus christ, murdering 13 women??? He deserves to rot in a prison cell for that and suffer in hell untill he's sad excuse for a life comes to a end.

He should remain behind bars for the remainder of his life.

He's safer on the inside... its a pity they don't let him out.
Mind you I once lived in Bradford... what a sh***y hell-hole of a town, it would drive anyone to murder.

Only if the other inmates are allowed to give him a going-away party the night before he's released.

20 life terms is a bit harsh for what people get for murder today. He didnt kill any children.

Sutcliffe and Malcolm McArthur really set the trend for dapper murderers in bow ties. Adds a bit of class to proceedings.

The women he killed were somebody's children. He should rot for the amount of lives he has ruined.

the man murdered 13 women. Who cares if there no children? He will hopefully die of a long painful illness.

13 murders, 7 attempted murders, and 2 more known about that he wasn't charged it. Youngest murder victim was 16. Diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and claimed voices told him to kill. He's not in a prison but a mental institution.

His 20 life terms is gone. It was changed last year to one life term....his life term. The only way he will leave official custody is in a box.

If you want to troll there are better examples.

Why wasnt he just hanged ? Whats the point keeping him locked up ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 356 ✭✭hoorsmelt

Actually, he was found to have been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia when he committed the murders, and has been in a secure psychiatic hospital since 1984. In 2009, his doctors certified that he could be released without any risk to the public. For the crime of murder, there are strict mental ingredients including pre-meditation, criminal recklessness or criminal negligence, which need to be satisfied before a charge for murder will stand, and the actions of someone who's suffering from mental illness may not fulfil those criteria. In such cases, depending on the crime and the surrounding circumstances, they may be found guilty of manslaughter with diminished responsibility, found not guilty by reason of insanity and confined to a secure psychiatric unit until cured or deemed fit for release, or else found not guilty altogether where there is evidence of a blackout or loss of control which was temporary and not induced by the defendants actions. With Sutcliffe, I think he should be released under strict supervision and with regular check-ups, as someone is entitled to have their actions judged under different criteria when suffering from an illness like paranoid schizophrenia. Not popular but there's my 2 cents for what they're worth.

actually, the more i think about this the more i would like to see him released.

he wouldn't last a day before someone gouged his eyes out with a hot poker. that'd be a result and he wouldn't cost the british taxpayer another penny. win win.
