i cant see lads telling ya where there shooting
as poaching and guys hunting deer to sell to the game dealers is a big thing at the minute... im in no way saying you do this by the way

where have ya asked for permission is it in your local area or have ya traveled to ask

once ya get onto that one farm with permission yal have loads in no time
one thing i would recommend is to be well dressed and polite
and have a bit of banter with the farmer and introduce yourself by name and where your from before asking him for permission and make sure ya have your deer and rifle permits along with insurance when asking as this is something most of them look for

also maybe your asking in an odd area
i went upto a place along the lough derg where it was rampant with deer
and the farmers wanted them left there as the tourists that stayed there in rented accommodation on there farms liked looking at them

this led to other farmers in the area that had no houses to rent not letting people on there land to shoot deer as they didnt want to fall out with the neighbours

    Best of luck to you
Ive been trying to get permissions for a while now:(
Two of my 'bankers' one was told by the local super he had too many people registered to shoot on his land and the other had a bullock shot but someone with a gun and now doesnt allow anyone on with a gun:(
Ive been trying to get permission for a while now but anyone ive asked has said its either paying mad money for a lease or forgetting about it altogether

keep knocking on doors eventually you will get what you want, most farmers view deer as vermin and are only to glad to get rid of them.

its not upto the super how many shoot deer on his land its upto the npws and the local ranger to make the cedision on your permit

Have to admit, it's getting harder and harder to get permissions. I took up stalking 4 years agao and paid €1500 / year on a coilte lease up until two years ago. i simply couldn't afford it any more. Since then I've been knocking on doors and have had very little success - the answer being most of the time 2ah sure so-and-so down the road comes up and lamps them for me, he got 6 the last time he was out and sure he's doing a grand job" but then when you ask them have they got a section 42 they look at you blankly and ask what one of them is!!! It's actually really starting to gawl me how difficult it is for an honest lad like myself to try and get a bit of permission when the lads who got in ahead of you seem to (sometimes) abuse their positions.

I am afraid that the local guy is always going to get in their first, (And I mean the local legite guy and the not so legite).

I have noticed that there is a big influx of lads around me trying to get into deer shooting, unfortunately it's for the money, the lad that has most of the permissions where I live wouldn't sell a deer, he would give it away and feels that the lads in it for the money will eventually ruin it for everyone else.

Your going to have to build a trust before you get the permission to shoot the deer, having all the insurance etc will help, but most farmers don't know what a section 42 is or the NPWS, so in a way go back to first principals. You have a bit of work to do if your not from the area.

I was with a Neighbour of mine about 3 months ago when a lad drove up to him looking for permission to shoot deer and pheasant he was in an 09 Landcruiser, anyway, My neighbour has a good 65 acres and he is fit in body and soul very active in his seventies, he asked him where he was from and the chap replied Navan. Well, My Neighbour looked him in the eye and asked him what happened to the farms in Meath, did they all plant houses.

I got my First deer permission by opening my gob. 1st thing you do is ask the farmer does he need any Vermin shot. You say you will take care of scawl crows, Foxes Rabbits or what ever he so wishes, Tip, Find a sheep farmer in teh mountains, as there are many.

Mention fox control, shoot a few foxes for him.
Then after a few weeks test the water about shooting deer, and ask him do any of his friends or neighnours need help controlling Deer & or Foxes on their land.

15 years later you will cry when you look out on a perfect day and realize you are too busy to shoot all your permissions :(
