    Hi all,

Having read reviews on this car I am considering getting one.
I do about 10-12k miles per year and currently have a 1.6 corolla which isn't exactly the best on fuel (80 miles for €20 fuel).

I know the tax will be a bit more and possibly insurance but for mixed driving, would the Audi be a better option?

Also, is there anything I should look out for in them? I had considered the 320D too but heard that the turbo's and swirl flaps tend to go on them alarmingly often.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!:)

Your Corolla is sick perhaps? My bad maths suggest that's 25mpg.

A4 130bhp 1.9tdi is a class car.I think all sport models in this country are UK imports?.I used to have one but it wasn't the sport model and I was getting about 700 miles to a tank of diesel. This was from long distance driving.

6-speed gear box can fail on some models, so hopefully yours will have either been replaced or you have a good one.
Be careful with the suspension (if it is a genuine s-line). When you replace the shocks, get the correct ones and don't listen to a mechanic who says that "oh they are all the same". They are not. You need to get the correct ones.
CV joints, will need replacement after 80k or so (maybe more).
All in all, the 130 TDI is a good engine, but needs fully synthetic oil from birth or the cam shaft tends to wear prematurely.

I don't think so. The car is 13 years old now and according to wisebuyers, the official figure was about 34 mpg for mixed driving. Probably wasn't ever a frugal car! :( Think it works out at around 28/29 mpg which is rubbish...

Cool. I heard the 2.0 CR TDis can give trouble so I wanted to go for the 1.9. Yeah possibly imports, but I reckon I'd get the UK spec one anyway because most irish cars have a very basic spec! That sounds excellent!:D

Cool thanks. I'm only planning on keeping it for 2/3 years so hopefully I won't have to fork out for any big bills like that! It would be the sport model which AFAIK is different from the S-line(please correct me if I'm wrong!).

CV joints shouldn't be too bad anyway had to get them done for my civic before but I can check that before I buy.

Thanks for all the help guys! I think I'll go ahead with this! I will post again and let you know how it goes! :D

    Had a 2003 model. A4 130bhp. Bought Dec 2007 with 52000miles on clock

    One previous owner
Had to replace flywheel, and started leaking oil. Gears were crunching by the end too. Traded it in December 2009 with 88,000 miles on clock
    Perhaps I was just unlucky

I drive the 130bhp A4, which is also an '04 from the UK. Mine has 170k miles on the clock and wants for nothing. Regular oil changes, and dont forget the timing belt. Anything else is just wear and tear tbh.

The best car i have ever owned or driven.

P.S. The estate is the one i wanted, so I got it.
