This is an expensive little hole of a country to live in.

    - Tax for a 1.4 car is 333 euro per year
    - Rent for a 1 bedroom showbox flat is 600 euro per month
    - Petrol is almost 1.50 a litre

Its expensive unless your living with mammy & daddy & not paying rent in the land of make believe. If i had the means to set myself up in another country i'd be out of here in the morning.

    Your post seems familiar...

Once upon a time you dressed so fine
You threw the bums a dime in your prime, didn’t you?
People’d call, say, “Beware doll, you’re bound to fall”
You thought they were all kiddin’ you
    You used to laugh about
    Everybody that was hangin’ out
Now you don’t talk so loud
Now you don’t seem so proud
About having to be scrounging for your next meal

Stand up, don´t "accept it" and TRY!

The country is going nowhere if all anybody does is sit down and accept their dole.

I won't bash you per se but man, all I do is look for jobs and it's hopeless. I'm applying for anything from bartender to teacher to
pumpkin-pie eater....(Had to be done. I just love to rhyme) Still, I'm looking in to volunteering now. There's plenty that can be done in the absence of a job.

Keep trying dude. I got a pumpkin-pie eating job just last week.

Yup, better than doing nothing is helping out somewhere useful or upskilling.
    Good luck.

Touche. Yeah, I'm great at prioritising. I couldn't live without the internet. How would I apply for jobs...and stay up all night talking nonsense on boards. :) Hahah. No, I'm lucky. No mortgage or anything like that. Still, it's impossible to save or anything. I mean I think most people these days are living paycheque to paycheque.

If they can actually afford it then more power to them.

It's not as if the entire country went on a credit craze.
