    Hi

Does anyone know of a wheelchair accessible gym in the above area? I rang Jackie Skelly's gym in Parkwest today, and their weights are up on the 2nd floor with no access!!

Also, Liffey Valley Fitness have a lift on their premises that they can't/don't seem to be bothered about repairing??

    Suggestions welcome. :)

We are wheel-chair friendly. So is The Fitness Dock. I believe the Iveagh Gym is too.

    Where are you based?

BD Fitness in Lucan has a working lift and all equipment is on the one floor. Wheelchair-accessible shower and toilet too.

    Nice find.

Surely it's now a legal requirement to have the wheelchair ramps and lifts, no?

Would have thought so, yep... Sure to the best of my knowledge you can't even build a house now without having a wheelchair-accessible toilet downstairs?

Could be that once the building was in place before whatever guidelines came in allowed them to get around it.

TF Blanchardstown's weight room is downstairs, has a wheelchair bathroom straight inside the door AND has a 4 station specially designed piece of kit for people in wheelchairs.

It's like this bit of kit; http://www.equalizerexercise.com/1000/main1000.jpg

I think it has like a cable pushdown, lat pulldown, chest press and something else fuction. Instead of where the seat'd be on normal pieces of kit it just has leg pads or whatever so you can position yourself under it and it'll hold you in place.

I havent' spoken to anyone's used it but it looks liek a solid and well constructed legit piece of kit.

    There's a handbike and Grappler too; http://www.exercise.co.uk/images/prod/prop_1_1084.jpg

I bought the Multi gym and grappler when I ran TF and I never saw it used- a pity because it is a great piece Of kit.

Op- monkstown is the most accessible gym in Ireland, all ifi equipment etc.

Probably out of your way but LA Fitness in Darty (D6) is fully wheelchair accessable. David Lloyd in Clonskeagh is the same.

Whereabouts in Lucan is this? Do you have any contact details(website etc)? It seems to be a ladies' gym?

    Cheers.

    MM

EDIT: Am on the website, but there doesn't seem to be any contact details(phone etc)? Can anyone help?

2nd EDIT: I must be going blind? Found the contact number.

Glad I could help you sort that out! :D :pac:

It's on Ballyowen Lane, where the Penny Hill pub and Lidl are. Very accessible from both N4 and N7.

And it's definetly wheelchair accessible!? Do they have special exercise machines for disabled people?

I don't know that they have specialised machines, I suspect possibly not. But they do have a working lift and shower/toilet facilities. There are several cable stations in 2/3 different parts of the gym, they would appear to be wheelchair accessible but I really couldn't say for sure.

    Handbike?

As it sounds... instead of turning the pedal with your feet and legs, you use your hands and arms!

Haven't been on this thread in ages, so here goes:

I'm going to join the gym that's attached to Stewarts Hospital in Palmerstown. It's got equipment specifically designed for disabled people, so it could be worth it!?
