I stayed there mid-refurb and thought it was great. It's as easy as any other Manhattan hotel to get to - we did the shared minibus thing that's pretty cheap and takes you door to door.

dont know if you have been to New York or not but the fare from JFK to manhattan is a set fee (so might be worth finding some other travellers willing to share a cab)

every taxi driver in the city will know where the new yorker hotel is given that it is right across the street from penn station and madison square garden

never stayed there but its known to be a good hotel, if you haven't stayed in manhattan before most of the hotel buildings are very old and the rooms to be a little smaller than you expect

I stayed their last year and it is very easy to find.we used the air rail from JFK to Jamaica station and then got the Long Island railroad into Penn station.using rail will be much cheaper than taxi's.There was 2 of us and neither knew our way around but its very easy to find .

You need to fill out the ESTA form, its on the embassy site http://dublin.usembassy.gov/
Just get to the airport a bit early, the immigration stuff can be done in Ireland before taking off, its handy going to the US nowadays. Enjoy
