Hi guys, Well here is my problem and it's starting to get me down. My teeth are in ok condition (none are rotten) it's just a few of my teeth on the top are not straight (I can post pics of them if it is benificial?), It has never really bothered me until recently, Now I am conscious everytime I laugh or smile and I hate seeing myself in photos.

Thing is I was looking around and braces seem awfully expensive (currently unemployed) I currently have a medical card but i'm not sure that would cover anything like braces ect..

Is thee any alternative for me? I am tired of trying to hide my teeth when I smile lol...

Hi OP, please do not post pics up. Thanks.

Just so you know, there's also a Dental Issues forum where you might get some more information, although you can't post unregistered there.

Are you sure you don't have bodydismorphic disorder: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_dismorphic_disorder

    Hey OP,

I had the same problem and got braces but you're correct in saying they're expensive I spent around €3000. Like I love my theeth now and it was worth it but if you're unemloyed the price would be prohibitive. I've heard that dentistry is overpriced in Ireland though and that it's cheaper in the UK and Europe, maybe have a look around for a cheaper price?

    Best of luck.

Dude your teeth don't make up who you are. I have funky teeth (mainly from when I was 12 I was suppose to get my baby fang teeth taken out but the dentist got scared when I felt faint after the injections and thought I was having a reaction, mainly cause I'm truly scared of needle) and thought everyone knew about it and saw it and thought it was really weird etc. It came up in conversation a while ago and my best friend of 10 years never even noticed it.

I find the more people try to conceal their teeth/smile, the more effort I make to take notice of their teeth! So try not to draw peoples' attention to them; act confident.
Longterm, you can straighten teeth either with orthodontic work(braces), or artificially, via crowns to mask the rotations/prominence of the teeth.
Crowns involve paring down the crooked teeth to peg shapes,& the average lifespan of a crown is 10-15 years.....so try not to condemn your healthy teeth to this. (fair enough if the teeth had large fillings& needed crowns to prevent against fracture ect, but otherwise you're just weakening perfectly healthy unfilled teeth for no reason other than cosmetics. And the longterm maintenance is a major factor....replacement crowns, risk of root canal treatment, ect ect). Orthodontics is definately more "tooth friendly", money friendly& patient friendly!
