honestly not a lot to see/do in verona compared to the major italian tourist cities, there is the arena di verona which is a mini colosseum, lamberti tower has good views, juliet's house and piazza delle erbe which will be packed with tourists

the advantage of verona is that it is close to venice, the dolomites and a little further to glorious southwestern austria

Well, if you go in the summer the Arena puts on a fair oul outdoor opera most nights - http://www.arena.it/

Other than that not much. I was there for a few days but it was for the opera so I was happy enough to potter around during the day and go to the opera in the evening so I wasn't looking for too much else to do.

p.s. if I remember the location correctly they do a pretty damn good kebab in the bar/restaurant with all the white lights at the right of the picture here - http://www.arena.it/en-US/arena/schedule-2011.html

Verona is pleasant, but not very large. A couple of days there would do the trick. Opera in the arena is an experience in season, if that lights you bulb. It is a major transport hub though, the main North/South and East/West rail lines cross there and a variety of day trips are possible. The likes of Vincenza and Padova can be seen in a day, I think Venice needs more than a few hours. Trento is a pleasant small city too for a trip. I wouldn't bother with Brescia.

I loved Verona, but only spent two nights there, arriving lateish on the first.

We did a very nice walk around the town based on a map given to us by the tourist info which took in most things including the Arena and Ampitheatre.

We didn't see the Opera, but sat in a bar outside the arena and listened to it. A lovely atmospheric evening.

Oh yeah, I rubbed Juliet's breast as well:)
