Big news there, report it to the RSA and watch nothing happen.

Its not illegal to have a car for sale on a forecourt with an altered mileage, so long as the seller makes the buyer aware of that fact. It only becomes illegal once the deal is done and the car is sold without the seller notifying the buyer of the changed mileage.

Mileage can be changed on a car for legitimate reasons, such as a new set of clocks.

PM motorcheck on here. They'd be good for advice in a scenario like this

Have you checked (properly checked) the service history yet? Call a few of the garages on it and see what mileage they give you.

As for the finance, most cars on every forecourt in Ireland are still on finance in some shape or form at the minute, is whether the finance is cleared or not before a sale is the problem.

have you got a link to this car?
how can a 2007 car have records for the mileage of an 07 car as it would of not entered the NCT yet etc etc

I would assume it could be a UK import where dealer networks record and share the mileage?

nct it seems isnt the only way they gather info, girl on the phone wouldent say what milage records she had only that their info comes from various sources, http://nmr.ie/category/q-and-a/

that would explain it allright as the UK have a good National Mileage record and all MOT's are entered into this system.

do the NCT pass on the mileage info though?
ive had a few cars with various NCT's on them and none of them showed up the NCT mileage on the car reports.
plus an 07 car would not of haven its NCT yet so therefore no record from them.

which leads me to believe that the car may not be clocked. what proof do you have OP?

@keire. the only proof i have is the report from caetell.ie and the phone conversation with them stating that they have records that say the milage is incorrect,
what would be the point of paying €35 for a backround check if I cant take what their saying as correct,
the garage have no records to back up the milage.
