This is the norm with apparent "steals" on Argos website. All too regular an occurrance unfortunately

Will be next year, when they can no longer receive RTE, have to go out and buy a set top box with more leads, wiring and plugs behind their units.

If buying a TV now MPEG4 with MHEG5 is the spec to go for.

    Good price though.

If you are with UPC or sky, it will not be an issue. And a lot of people are;)

If it doesn't work with Saorview it should be advertised as a monitor and not as a TV. SKY/UPC customers won't mind and those who want Saorview will have no doubt if it works or not.

Retailers who continue sell these monitors as TV's are leaving themselves open for a wave of customers returns at the end of 2012 (including some returns by SKY/UPC customers that just want a free upgrade :D ). The Saorview specs have been known since 2008 and it's reasonable for the average joe to assume that a Digital Terrestrial TV sold in Ireland will work with Irish Digital Terrestrial service.

Thanks OP - Nice Monitor :)

im gona be delighted when i get a saorview recorder box and will make it my business to annoy every single one of the 'saorview police'

I've had the trial signal for the last year or so along with Freesat. All for free, with my MVision (sky plus) box. So this TV\Monitor is not an issue for me.
However, I agree with the sentiments above, retailers have no excuse for continuing to sell UK standard products that just won't work here next year.

It's perfectly relevant to inform people that it won't be able to receive terrestrial RTÉ in a couple of years. Nothing wrong with providing info on it in this thread, is there? If it doesn't matter to a lot of people, that's their business. It makes an excellent-value monitor:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,647 ✭✭✭channelsurfer2

yes as stated if people want to go ahead and buy it they can but then if they want it to work after 2012 to recieve rte they will have to fork out anything between 80 to 100 euro's again for a set top box. wheres the bargain then if they dont have upc or sky or even multi-room as it will be useless..so its very relevant to post it here..

It's a bargain, end of story.

Only if you don't want to watch terrestrial TV in this country in 2 years. Which of course, applies to loads of people.

It's a BUSH - the electronic world equivalent of Lada.
How can tat at any price ever be a bargain?

I'd love it for the Xbox & PS3 as its full HD and a decent size but it seems its sold out everywhere

Full hd at 24in is pointless. Anyway your better of saving some more money and buying an actual tv.
Just cant wait for the UPC/Sky brigade to start complaining when they cant get RTE HD.
Soccer Internationals, Champions league, Gaa, Rugby World Cup.........

eh no it's not. If anyone is using this as a dual monitor TV then the full HD makes a big difference

lol course it's not! I've seen the 16" full hd panels on the Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop and the clarity on text is just amazing!

Have had HD TV with Sky for the last 2 years or so and its not all its cracked out to be, actually ruins some films as picture looks silly everything is to defined i.e makeup and background. As for footie and your world cup won't make a iota of difference, only thing you get is greener grass and brighter jerseys if your into that sort of thing.

Great price monitor and pay no attention to the usual suspects.

    RTE HD = COMEDY.

I ditched SkyHD sub, bought a Freesat HD PVR.

The difference in sound & picture quality was significant and was remarked upon even by those in the household with no nerdy interest in AV.

If you've had Sky HD for 2 years and aren't happy with it, why give Rupert the cash?

Cancelling Sky (for us) has been a great move.

Sorry its a Bush. I would never touch anything made by Bush, quite simply they break. Finlux, due the fact that they need to comply to many EU regulations, produce very good value for money products which are made in EU.

It looks that they are owned by Vestel, a Turkish company.

The monitor is a good price, because that's all it is.
Will not work as a stand alone TV by 2012.

Sweet Christ, it will more than just a monitor for a LOT of people

This happens in every television BA recently.

Is there any way that the saorview squad could maybe just post whether it is or isn't compatible rather than givng some stupid speech about it being useless (which it isnt)?

    Well to paraphrase your goodself

Sweet Christ, it will be no more than just a monitor for a lot of people.:D

I did not realise giving the correct information was such a crime.

    So....

SaorView allows you to receive RTE Channels in HD and to do so you have to have an RTE approved Digital box...

So fork out more cash to receive the same crap programs but in HD.....

    Someones having a laugh...

"RTÉ recommends that consumers wishing to avail of the SAORVIEW service only purchase receivers that carry the SAORVIEW approved logo.

At present there are a small number of SAORVIEW approved STBs or iDTVs, see below. Others are currently going through the testing process. In the lead up to the full launch of SAORVIEW in spring 2011 we are confident that there will be a wider range of approved receivers available from retailers and TV installers across the country."

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Mainly due to the sheer volume of idiots that reserve items online and never bother their holes to collect them.
