I am just curious, has anyone had their pay cut from €8.65 per hour, or been recently hired on a wage that's less than €8.65 per hour?

I don't think the the new level has actually come into force yet.

Yes I have heard of staff being reduced to €8.00 in a shop/petrol station.
It was sold to them as: everybody goes to €8.00 or we let 2 staff go.

I advised the person to apply to a local supermarket that is still offering €9.10 starting rate for 15 hr contract.

I have to say I wouldn't use that service station since I heard this. Business is business, but this just irks me.

I'm on €7.49 an hour so it has indeed come into effect. I think I joined my work last month a few days after it was announced and signed the contract

Well the new minimum is 7.65 for "adult workers" - so you must be on a rate for 18 or 19 yr old?

See The new Minimum Wage Rates here and the pre Budget ones too.
According to that page - the new rates did become law on 22nd Dec 2010.
€7.49 isn't one of the rates - so maybe your employer is paying you a bit more than the min wage if you are 18 or 19.

Yeah we got the same speech, everyone take a euro drop in pay and jobs stay safe, however 2 people left for new jobs so it never transpired thank god.
