Company closing soon after joining

Uh-Oh well I just started a new job a couple of months ago, but things have been pretty bad sales wise within the company. There's a very high risk of the company shutting up shop here and moving support back to the UK at the end of the month if things don't improve. At the moment they're not covering their over-heads and don't see the value in having an office here.

If I was with the company for longer and my financial situation was better, I would stick it out to see what happens. BUT since I'm not here very long I want to cover my bases and start looking for a new job. I can't afford to be out of work for too long while looking for a new one.

I'd obviously have to explain a little bit in my cover letter why I'm looking to leave so soon after joining. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what would sound the best? Just state that the future of the office is uncertain? Or would this look bad and like I'm jumping ship?

Don't even try to explain it in the letter.

So you think it would be best to just treat my CV as normal. Would it be wise to say it at the interview stage if asked why am I leaving? Or just give other reasons?

Yeah, I'd leave it out of the cover letter.

Remember that you have some legal obligations on how much information you do/do not give out about your current employer. I wouldn't insinuate that your employer is in any difficulties or about to close their office. Something along the lines of, "I've been told that there's a very high risk of my team's work being moved to an overseas office, and as I haven't been with the company very long I feel that I need to find a more stable position in another company".

If they try to dig any further, just explain that you still have an obligation to your current employer and cannot say anything more.

Potential employers will understand and respect that.

I think a cover letter should be about why you want to join their company, not why you want to leave your current one. You should be focussing on why you would be a good fit for the role and their company. Unless your CV is littered with lots of short stints in different companies, I wouldn't worry about it.
