Hape has really impressed me in his recent England games although not for Bath. Deacon plays well for Leicester.Palmer plays great for England, a really good defender. Steve Thompson has made a good comeback and is justifiably competing with Hartley for that 2 shirt and dave Wilson is always good when he comes off the bench. But I agree with you about the rest.

Glad to see Strettle there. It's laughable that Dowson isn't in there, yet Worsley is. Clarke should be in there ahead of Tindall IMO. I also think they should have included Manu, just to get some test experience for him.

Isn't Lawes ruled out for 3 months and Tom Croft will hardly feature much in the 6N either. He's only due back from injury in the middle of it.

Be fair ... add Cueto to that list, too!

Add Armitage, Cueto and Haskell to the red list. What happened to not picking overseas players?

As pointed out to me by another poster during the AI's:

Tindall is an enigma, hands like feet, runs only in straight likes and has lost a bit of pace but without fail England always perform better with him the team

It's only from after the world cup.

No one else has been given a consistent run there. There's been a fair few comedy shows with Tindall in the side too.

I don't rate him much but their win percentage is higher with him in the team.

Your right that he's the only one who's got a consistent run at 13, England have burned far too many promising young centre's the past 8 years.

    A first XV of:
    Foden, Cueto, Tindall, Hape/Flutey, Ashton, Flood, Youngs;
Sheridan, Hartley, Cole, Palmer, Shaw, Fourie/Haskell, Moody, Easter

I'd go along with that but I can't see how that XV adds up with the favourites tag being offered by the Bookies.

The biggest potential slip ups for them imo are us and Wales. I don't think they'll lose to both of us and they should beat France.

To be fair, Foden, Cueto, Ashton and Youngs can be entertaining to watch.

Not saying that's going to sweep that team to victory in this 6N though :pac:

i actually fancy england in this year 6 nations, they might surprise us,

with regards to boring team post, if their boring were must be worse, i taught they were fantastic in november, and play the best rugby of all the 6 nations teams

Oh Emmet really? Did you forget the joes of the Erinle Hipkiss midfield? Or the ever lovely Hodgeson/Barkley Tindal and Noon midfield? Ahh now they were some boring boring teams :p

But that comes down more to Foden and Ashton than england.

do you think that back row is capable of standing up to ours?( assuming ferris is fit) or france or even scotland?

In a nutshell, absolutely not. (even without Ferris)

It absolutely is a boring team. So many of those players pride themselves on being destructive and obtrusive. Their pack is just 8 lumpy fellas who could've been boxers but someone handed them a rugby ball instead. They are there to stifle opposition, and that's about it. Italian tactics.

The backs have some flashes of brilliance, Foden is great to watch, Youngs and Ashton perhaps.

But having 2/3 players who can entertain on a team of 15, simply not enough.

I thought England were trying to move away from this game that won them the WC? Seems like they're moving backwards, replacing like for like.

England captain Lewis Moody is out for 6 weeks.

A backrow of Haskell, Fourie and Easter probably. Not great at all.

What about Dowson? or is he even included in the squad

Fourie and Easter are perfect examples of how mis-leading the Premiership can be. Truly pedestrian players who can thrive in a limited style of rugby.

I'd have Dowson in but Johnson doesn't seem to rate him.

    Yet both had good AI.

    They weren't bad.

Fourie is not an international player from what I have seen though..

Easter has been consistently mediocre at international level for about 3/4 years.

Surely there's an English Number 8 playing that is better than Easter? I don't see how people are tipping England for the 6N looking at the squad, especially with Lawes out and Croft (overhyped as he is, a fine player) only returning during it.

They'll have a solid scrum, will be outplayed by most backrows, will have a middling line-out, good halfbacks, a nothing midfield and good outside backs.

They are very hard to beat and manage to win quite a few games they shouldn't based on performance.

They have superb half backs and outside backs. And a decent pack.

Youngs is superb, Flood is decent.

Ashton and Foden are excellent players, Cueto is nothing more than solid.

Would love to see Strettle get back to where he was in 2007 (4 years ago now??? ).

England and London Irish full-back Delon Armitage has been called to a disciplinary hearing for allegedly pushing an anti-doping officer.

Armitage, 27, is also alleged to have used threatening and/or abusive and obscene language during a routine test, said the Rugby Football Union.

The incident followed a Premiership game against Bath on 1 January.

Armitage is charged with "conduct prejudicial to the interests" of the sport. His hearing is on Thursday.

That's disgraceful if true. I never liked Armitage but jesus this takes the biscuit!

All I've ever seen/heard about him is bad stuff. I remember him telling a load of kids to piss off when they were just looking for autographs after the friendly in Donnybrook. He's not even that good of a player, just the usual English hype.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 910 ✭✭✭Ciaran-Irl

With Lawes, Moody & Croft out, their pack looks a lot less threatening. Those are their three most important forwards, along with Sheridan.

IF being the operative word. LI are mounting a robust defence against this one saying the officials in question over reacted completely to a very minor incident. Also bear in mind that Armitage took the test and passed. There is no question regarding that. Can I also say that the guy gets a very bad press, I've met him on a number of occasions and he's a very pleasant guy. Not saying he's a plaster saint but some of the bull**** peddled about him is utterly hilarious to anyone who follows LI and knows what they do off the field.
