Im pretty sure a few people mentioned doing heavy full low squats twice or three times a week alone ( and nothing else ) would put on sizeable overall mass ( if eating right )

would be this be the case or am i imagining it ?

im thinking of giving it a go - just wondering if its worth the pain and puking.

Squats apparently build more muscle by stimulating your CNS in a way which no other exercise can replicate. You may get more gains from the rest of your compounds when your body realises "oh **** im weak...must build muscle here" but squats alone will only build up the muscles you hit in the exercise. At least thats what ive gathered from my limited reading.

EDIT: I may have got my information from here:pac:

No. Know people who squat fairly well (only) and do cardio (Ball games) and are still slim. You could do pull-ups or something between sets like.

id say theyd add some mass but i think it would be alot better to add in more exercises to get the most out of it.Im currently doing stronglists 5x5 basically 5 sets of 5 reps and 2 warm up sets.3 workouts a week squatting 3 days a week(i do monday wednesday friday) Heres the site if you want to take a look into it > http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/

For the guys talking about squats creating greater GH/whatever release.... Any quantifiable evidence of this? And even if it's statistically significant, does it lead to a measurable increase in muscle mass/faster recovery?

Squats don't lead to mass all over, they, apparently, lead to extra GH released which leads to the potential for more mass all over when combined with other lifts, ie you still have to press/row/curl

That's what I want to know. I'll accept it increases GH, but how much. "Increases" means nothing unless quantitified in numbers. PPM/mg in bloodstream will be ok, but ideally in real terms would be better, kg of muscle

20 rep squats are better then 5 for me anyway, gave me some nice wheels.
