How is this broken?

I have a speaker dock that I mistakenly plugged a higher voltage power power adapter into one day. I was unpacking a lot of electrical stuff and the two adapters look identical, but it was the wrong one and my speakers made a couple of muffled loud sounds before stopping.

When I use the correct plug, the display and lights work fine, but no sound comes out of the speakers. Can someone advise me what exactly may be broken with the system and whether this sort of thing is easy to repair yourself or get fixed locally? Thanks!
