If anyone happens to be in London later this month, this may be of interest:
IEEE Distinguished Lecture: Electronics and Its Impact on Energy and the Environment
    Date: 27 January 2011
    Time: 16:00-18:00
Venue: the University of Greenwich, Room KW002, Maritime Campus, London

Getting the balance right between energy sourcing and consumption, and doing it now, will enable mankind to continue to be the adventurous spirit that has made us explorers and innovators without boundaries. We must have growth in energy, yet not contribute to global-warming; we must enable innovation; we must enable travel - to explore, learn and wonder at this marvellous blue yet fragile planet in which we live; and also to sustain the ability to go beyond its boundaries.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of detail on who will be speaking or what format the lecture will take (although I understand that Nihal Sinnadurai is involved), but the subject matter is probably of interest to posters on this forum.
