    Hi there,

I am looking to buy my first shotgun and have come across a S/H Beretta 686S Essential for €800.

Does anybody have any opinion on this gun and is it worth that money? I dont know how old it is or what the story is but it is coming from a renowned gunshop.

Does it have a designed or plain reciever? Is it 12 or 20 guage?

Also just while Im here, would I be better off buying this gun S/H or a new Lanber Sporter deluxe for €1100?

Also any information on a dealer with a Silver Pigeon for under €1200 would be brilliant.

    Thanks lads.

Ya its in great condition tbh, few minor scuffs thats about it.

I heard great things about the 686E, Id say its a better gun than the 686S essential but my budget isnt too strong at the minute.

The gun fits alright but I used a 50 year old browning at the weekend, although very heavy, it was for sure the best fit I've ever, but love nor money wouldnt buy this gun.

    hey guys
i bought one 10months ago for €750. it is 18 years old and since iv had it, it has never missed a beat. i paid €100 to get the woodwork redone and ioiled and now it is a lovely looking gun.
if it seems in good nick i would not hesitate to buy it.
you could pay €80 to have a gun smith check it out.

am just a newbie here so when i find a wat to post dem i will no problem.
when i was buying my gun i held the 686e to but they felt pretty much the same to me so bought second hand 686s and decided to invest in new semi auto instead.
has scroll engraving, gd 2 wood, 30inch multi choke barrel.

I must sound like a dope but is the scroll engraving just "Beretta" in fancy writing or is it a hunting scene?? and thanks again, i think im gonna go for it

the scroll engraving is made up of acanthus leaves. it a pretty standard engraving on budget beretta guns.
    best of luck wit it.

Is it for hunting or clays? I bought a 686E and it is a great gun. If its for clays then get back to me and I can tell you some more. But either way, if its a beretta, it will hold its value. my first shotgun was a S/H beretta 682. I bought it with out knowing much about shotguns and while it got me started I knew I had to change a few months down to line. I traded it in against my new gun, (686E) for the same price I bought it for at a different dealer. My point is, Berettas hold their value, get back to me if its for clays if you want to know more...

Thanks JR and everyone else who commented. Saw the silver pigeon but there was a good few marks on it, so the gun dealer I went with sold me a new Lanber Sporter Delux for 1195 and a 2 year guarantee of 1000 euro to trade against a new gun again. So I reckon Ill do next season with the lanber and if I feel the need step up to the Beretta the year after.
