Can you apply for HEAR if you're already in college? I'm in first year.

I dont see the point in it.

You are already in College the only thing HEAR does is help you get in with lower points

It also qualifies you for a grant during your course duration.

You can apply alright. I'm in the same position. Took a course to keep my brain going but hope to transfer to a different course in September. Not sure if the deadline has passed though :/

Does anyone have any idea how much the grant will be for students eligible for the hear scheme in UCC? Or any idea what it was last year even though i know it will be lowered for incoming first years.

Was thinking this myself. Im in my first year in DIT, have been eligible for a grant but never applied for HEAR. Will I be able to apply for it for second year?

No I dont think you can. HEAR is a programme to get people to college...not to keep them there. If you were changing course and starting in first year then you would be eligible...as far as I know :D

Confirmation of eligibility arrived today. Not finished exams yet but it's great to know that the application was in order and successful.

So is the hear scheme not like an extra grant? Like do you not get extra money for it? I thought you do. I applied for it, got the letter that im eligble and now I have to go to a course in september.

Yes you do get some extra money, it varies by which Uni you go to. However, the main part of it, for most people, is that they will be accepted with a lower amount of points.

It trinity it's 600 euro if ye live within a certain distance and 800 if ye live further out. Ye can apply for a scholarship to which brings it up to a 1000.

I dont think that anyone here would be much help, everyone would be from NUI Maynooth.

Your college doesn't have to give you money because you got in through the HEAR scheme, I don't think NCI does!

Is there some sort of office that provides support to you because you are a HEAR student? Or the people that gave you your HEAR orientation? They would be the people to contact.

According to your college website you should email hear@ncirl.ie for advice about the HEAR scheme.

They could be reduced by just 5 points, they could be reduced by 50, one of my friends got into a course with 80 less points than usually required last year.

But I would say expect 10-15 point reduction.

Thank you, i think theres a certain amout of places reserved on each course for the programme so i suppose if theres only a few going for that course with the hear programme you'l get a bigger reduction

Yea it depends on the course, is there any particular course that you are looking at?

Agricultural science in UCD. i'd say since so many people go to UCD it'll be less points reduced?
