Same Rads heat to varying levels

    Hi All

I have a pretty antiquated heating system (around 25 years old).
I've noticed that the level of heat the rads generate can be quite random.
The rad in the sitting room can sometimes be too hot to touch and othertimes not half as hot. At one point when it wasn't too hot I turned the heating off and back on again and it was much hotter then. There are no TRVs or thermostats in the rooms.
Do you think this is happening because of my (ancient) boiler or is it something else ?

If your system is that old then you maybe need to look at upgrading it.
I assume it's Natural Gas you have.
A good Combi Condensing Boiler is the way to go. Which will be much more efficient than what you have. Rads may be ok with a good system power flush. You may be entitled to a Gov Grant to upgrade your system especially if you add some controls at the same time.

Thanks. Its an external "Warmflow" oil boiler.
I presume the boiler is the main cause of the issue. i.e. if the rads can be really warm sometimes but not others I would guess its the boiler is the main cause.

Logged a thread enquiring about heat controls but no replies :-)

It could be one of several things. It could be a faulty stat on the Boiler, A Pump problem, A System gummed up with Sludge. A faulty Motorized Valve.
Is it a sealed or open vented system.
Although if you are getting varying temperatures from the Boiler then it is most likely the Boiler Stat is faulty. Start by flushing and refilling the
system. If that dose'nt help change the stat and go on from there.
