What car checks if a uk imported car was an ex fleet car

saw a car for sale. it's owners brought the car back with them to Ireland when they moved here around a year ago. they bought the car in the uk secondhand.

just wondering if you know do any of the car checks check if a car was previously a fleet car? (i know you can get some good fleet cars but others could be dodgy i.e. used by sales men driving from one end of the country to the other and hence a risk of clocked mileage)

the irish websites i know are as follows, they also do uk checks

    www.cartell.ie
    www.mywheels.ie
    www.motorcheck.ie

the uk website i know is

    www.hpi.ie

I cannot find on any of them if they can check if it was an ex fleet car.
I know they can check if was an ex taxi or ex hackney.

Just wondering if anyone knows if any of the websites check it was an ex fleet car. If so I will do that check.

    Many thanks

    Thanks Corkie

Thanks Johnos, I had a look at the link and it was great. I also asked motor check on that forum if he knew if it would show up if it was an ex fleet car. Regardless the mileage details that report gives is great.

    Many thanks

    Hi Darby,

It's not possible to provide any information about previous owners in the report (data protection) but a lot of our mileage readings in the UK come from the BVRLA (British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association). If you see a reading on the report with BVRLA next to it the odds are good that it was a company car.

    Hope this helps!
    Shane.

Hi Motor Check, Corkie, Johnos 1984 and anyone else reading,

I did the motor check €35 full report on a car.
The initials BVRLA that you mentioned above were not beside the miles!
However the initials DVLA were beside the miles?

Just wondering if you know what DVLA beside the miles means? and if it might indicate that it is an ex fleet car. i.e. it gives the miles e.g. 90,000 miles. Source: DVLA

    Thanking you in anticipation

DVLA is the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency - its part of their Department of Transport. Its through the DVLA you register and tax your car, import/export a car etc.

Cee_jay's right. When you tax your car in the UK you have the opportunity to submit a mileage reading. This is where the DVLA reading comes from on the report. The readings are best when viewed as part of an overall pattern but as they're provided by the car's owner without any independent verification they can be misleading too.

Do you have access to any of the cars service history? If run as a company car you might find invoices / receipts made out to the company that owned the car. Otherwise a quick call to any previous service provider should tell you if it was booked in by a company or a private individual.

    Thats great cee_jay and Motorcheck,
thank you both very much for that helpful information.

We have already seen the car and my mechanic looked at the service history and thought it seemed fine. It is a private individual that owns it currently. He brought it home with him from the uk a few years ago. He said he bought it in a garage in the uk. So in the motorcheck report it is saying two owners and gives 3 dates of sale (the last date of sale would mean when he transferred it from a uk reg to an irish reg i.e. when he was bringing it to ireland as he moved here then).
the first date of sale is march 2006, the next date of sale is july 2006 and the last date of sale is august 2009. (they give the exact days too but i cant remember them and not logged into it now so am just giving the months). So this suggests to me that he bought it second hand (in a garage as he said he bought it in a garage) in july 2006 when the car was just 4 months old. This suggests to me it was nt a company/ex fleet car as wouldnt company cars be kept much longer (anyhow even if it was i doubt much mileage cold have been ran up in 4 months that would warrant clocking etc). So it looks like to me that it could have been a garage demo car? would that make sense to you?

Will ring the owner tomorrow to ask him that too. Just wondering if you have any opinions on it.

    Many thanks

    Hi Motorcheck,

I did two full checks on two cars recently. The full check report did not say if the cars were previously taxi's or hackney's in the uk or ireland.

I thought it would. Do you know if it should say this?

Also there was a discrepancy in the optometer readings. I have copied and pasted it below. Perhaps it was due to data input putting in the dates 10/01/2007 twice in error (thought they give different mileage readings 19,919 miles v 20,000 miles) and 01/10/2010 is entered above again as 19,919 miles maybe 01/10 was mixed up with 10/01 and data was entered twice or mixed up?? or does it suggest clocking do you think??

Also just wondering if Source UK trade suggests it is a company car also (say if the initials BVRLA were not there also).

    Odometer Contradiction:Yes
    Reading you entered:Not Supplied
    Previous Readings:
    30/06/2010 107,511 Mls (173,022 Kms) Source: BVRLA
05/05/2010 105,355 Mls (169,552 Kms) Source: UK Trade
14/08/2009 95,628 Mls (153,898 Kms) Source: UK Trade
02/06/2009 91,319 Mls (146,964 Kms) Source: UK Trade
16/01/2009 85,479 Mls (137,565 Kms) Source: UK Trade
27/08/2008 74,883 Mls (120,513 Kms) Source: UK Trade
14/02/2008 58,299 Mls (93,823 Kms) Source: UK Trade
12/02/2008 58,245 Mls (93,736 Kms) Source: UK Trade
07/01/2008 54,690 Mls (88,015 Kms) Source: UK Trade
    11/12/2007 51,998 Mls (83,683 Kms) Source: BVRLA
01/10/2007 19,919 Mls (32,057 Kms) Source: UK Trade (this could have been entered in error! darby1)
29/06/2007 35,625 Mls (57,333 Kms) Source: UK Trade
    07/03/2007 29,248 Mls (47,070 Kms) Source: BVRLA
10/01/2007 20,000 Mls (32,187 Kms) Source: UK Trade (or this could have been entered in error or mixed up the dates, darby1)
10/01/2007 19,919 Mls (32,057 Kms) Source: UK Trade (or this could have been entered in error darby1)

    Many thanks in advance

    Many thanks

    Hi Darby,

Yep looks like a data input error to me. The fact that he next reading picks up at a higher level supports the trend.

The UK Trade reading wouldn't mean it was a company car but the fact that BVRLA shows 3 times would make it likely.

If the checks you did were on Irish registered cars the Taxi / Hackney check would have been done. It's under a section named 'Usage Status' where any previous status as a taxi or a hackney would be highlighted.

Unfortunately it's not possible to do a taxi / hackney check on UK registered vehicles.

    Hope this helps!
    Shane.

    Hi Motorcheck,

That's great. Thank you for the feedback.
Just to clarify though you definitely don't think there is anything suspicious the way the reading on 10/1/2010 gives 19919 miles and also 20000 miles? though?

The reading on 1/10/2010 gives 19919 miles too so that is definitely a data input error.

So one of the 10/1/10 readings would have to be a data input error too wouldnt they?

Sorry - just looking for some reassurance on it!

The check I did was on a uk car so that must be why it did not give any information on whether it was a taxi or hackney. Thank you for confirming that motorcheck.

Really appreciate all your help. It has been invaluable.

    Thank you
