The company I worked for was recently taken over by another and we have been advised we are protected under TUPE regulations. Has anybody ever gone through this before??? The likelihood is our jobs will go once we educate the new company in about 9 mths time. With the old company - any staff which were made redundant got the 2 statutory wks and 6 extra weeks redundancy. Our big concern is we will only get the statutory redundany amount....the new company dont sound too good so far...already trying to screw us re maternity holidays etc. Any advice or other experiences like this??? Thanks in advance :)

Unfortunately I was in a very similar situation over two years ago. Our company was taken over by a competitor and despite assurances that nothing would change for at least three months three quarters of the staff were made redundant after two months and they received the minimum statutory redundancy if they qualified for it. I and a few others were kept on because we knew key details about the company and the customers. I moved to a new job in a different company within two months of my colleagues getting the sack and the others who remained were let go soon afterwards.

Now my situation could be totally different from yours. The company that took us over had a reputation for being "assholes" for want of a better description so we knew our goose was cooked when it was announced to us.

If I was in your shoes I would be looking at what else is out there as a precaution at the moment.

The simplist way to explaine TUPE is - whatever you have now, ie your T&C's cannot be deduced.

Thnaks for the replies, it looks like we are screwed...hols reduced by 6 days and they are going to come up with a compensation figure for them...they say we have no rights as this is not covered by tupe...we will be gone as soon as they get all the info they require from us i think. thanks again and will let u know as soon as i get updates
