Guitar - 13th fret sounds like a snare...

I got a new guitar in November, reasonably expensive for me, costing about €650. I have been playing it for a while (picking up from when I used to play some years ago) and I have just recently realised that when I hit the 13th fret (low E) it sounds like a snare (a really high rattle) when I move to 12th it's still there, but better and the same with 14. 15 and up is perfect and 11 down is also perfect. It isn't a pressure thing cause even with cappo on it it's the same.

My question is - has anyone experienced this before, or similar? Could it be just a problem with the strings or something more serious? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

EDIT: I have just seen a very similar post to this which sounds like it's answering my question!

Sounds like the string may be hitting off the fret bars, the fret bars might not be level.

I thought the same myself - is this fixable?

I had something similar to this happen to my acoustic a few years ago, turns out a slight adjustment of the truss rod sorted it right out.

Bring it to your local tech, do NOT attempt to adjust the truss rod if you don't know what you are doing.

Check the bar at the 13th fret, you should be able to see if its a little out and yeah take it down to a shop and they'll sort it, shouldn't be very expensive.

It does sound like an issue with the truss rod. If it's an expensive guitar then you should probably find a professional who can fix it. These guys aren't that common though and most likely the guy in your local music shop will have a whack at it.

I would advise you get an allen key and very very slightly adjust the truss rod until the buzzing goes. If you can get someone else to turn it while you pick out the note repeatedly it would be ideal. Turning it the most minute amount at a time would be the most important thing.
