Vat Query

    Hi Lads,

I'm self employed and vat registered.

The brother has recently bought a house up north and as a bit of a treat/present i've bought him a good few bits in the sale to do up his bathooms.

I'm also going to muck in for a few days and do a bit of work on his place to help him get his new house in order...obviously i won't get paid for this (wouldn't take it anyway as he's done me enough favours over the years)

Question is....can i claim back the vat on the items i bought for him even though i won't receive payment for the goods or the labour?

    Thanks.

No as they were not incurred in the course of business.
