    ??

Does that mean he doesn't pay any tax on his RTE earnings, or just on what he made/makes on the book?

Can we please make this exemption apply to the real artists of ireland - the ones who dedicate their life to their art, and not some rich upper-class arseholes who part-write some piece of **** kids story book [Rosanna] and then get 40,000 of their tax bill.

I'd rather see that go to someone who spends their life struggling to get by due to their dedication to the arts.

What I only learned recently was that JFK was so impressed with the Defense Forces cadets parading, they were specifically requested for his funeral by his wife

Worth saying after a week where the army was bashed here in After Hours

There's a documentary on youtube, quite an honour

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7eepw4Obeyc

So I hope this in the book

    As does he.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,089 ✭✭✭ascanbe

Let him have his artist's exemption; i'm sure he has as much claim to being an 'artist' as some others who benifit from it.
Then cut his salary by about 70%.
It's about time RTE 'star's' salaries began to reflect reality.

What I only learned recently was that JFK was so impressed with the Defense Forces cadets parading, they were specifically requested for his funeral by his wife

Might be generational thing ,I'm in my 40s ( also spent some time in the Irish Army )so I did actually know of that for quite a few years now but it's only in recent years it's got the recognition it deserved and assume it's got more with Tubridys book .
Worth saying after a week where the army was bashed here in After Hours

There's a documentary on youtube, quite an honour

So I hope this in the book

Watched that exellent youtube video about a year ago and it was an honour indeed for all involved and obiously overshadowed by the tragic reason they were there in the first place

Still doesn't make a shred of sense. "It says he is been slammed the DLB" is completely nonsensical to me.

He pays tax too. He's entitled to a tax exemption as are all other authors. Why should he be discriminated against?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,258 ✭✭✭✭Rabies

is it a tax exemption on the book or all his earnings?

Only book I presume. If so, then he is entitled to it.
If its all earnings, then its too much. Loop hole needs plugging

I was refering to the inaccurate thread title. The book itself hasn't been slammed, just him.

    just on the book

some of the replies in this thread are ridiculous

should we stop rich people and companies giving money to charity too, since its a tax write off?
