    hi,

A friend of mine was recently given an old 1st gen iphone by someone who upgraded to the iphone 4.

anyways i can see why they 'gave' it away. he gave it to me to unlock, which i did using redsnow, i also jailbroke it to 3.1.3 FW
so i then find out the home button is broke, as in it wont wake the phone & wt exit out of apps etc. so if you're using an app you have to swith the phone off to get out of it - making it useless!!

now i know there is an app for download -cydia called 'ihome' which replaces the home button by swiping the bottom of the screen.

thing is when i go into cydia to search for it, cydia only lists the packages that are already installed on the phone (ie whatever files are installed in the unlocking and jailbreaking process) and not all the packages that cydia has in its database, i dont know why its doing this, any ideas:confused:

    thanks...

allow cydia to do it's stuff until the reloading data thing appears. then, on the bottom of the screen you will see a ''changes'' tab. tap that and update if you have available updates. if not go into the ''search'' tab and type the name of the package that you want to install. and by the way...you need wi-fi connection. otherwise you will she nothing in cydia, except what is already installed.

yeah, after loading cydia about 15 times it eventually came up with the 'essential upgrade' option which i downloaded and that gave me access to the cydia database, couldnt find the ihome app but downloaded sbsettings and this allows the phone to be used without the home button.

    problem solved. thanks.
