How did you find you about that? I can't find a link to that page from elsewhere.

Usual nonsense from IE. Still no Sunday service on the Waterford/Limerick Junction line and the weekdays services on that route are done to suit some pencil pusher in Connolly rather than the travelling public. Why not ask the morons if they can produce a printed Mainline timetable for 2011 - I did.

You're right, surely there would be some market for students heading back to the various colleges on a Sunday. Ideally year round but even if it was just a September-May Sunday service.

You would think it's a no brainer but IE have no interest in this route..special fares but no advertising..a complete contradiction. The next route on the chopping block

IE have no interest in any route. They are like rabbits caught in the headlights and are incapable of thinking about anything but their own skins i.e. "the lump" for general workers and the large golden handshake for senior management - passengers and freight come a poor third.

The ongoing failure of the Waterford-Limerick Junction route is that that is what it is, i.e. not a Waterford-Limerick still less a Waterford-Galway route. The first service arrives from Waterford 0823 and accepts passengers from Cork (dep 0829) but also Dublin (0849). Continuing the Waterford train through to Limerick would increase the appeal of the service for business travel ex Waterford or Clonmel but also reduce Cork-Limerick timings from 108mins at present to about 90mins - a 16% reduction. The ex Limerick train could wait for the 0849 passengers which inconveniences nobody from the inbound service unlike making the ex Waterford passengers wait more than 20mins or more likely choose another way of getting to Limerick.
