Ok my laptop headphone jack is well and truly fecked! only getting sound from the left hand side when it's connected to monitors. It works sometimes if ya fiddle about with it but after about 20 minutes it comes lose again which isn't much good for me as i'm going to be doing live sets on ableton pretty soon. So what i was thinking, what would be the best thing to do ? Buy a new soundcard ? or what about getting one of those usb sticks that has an audio out and headphone jack on them ? Or would i still get the same problem with the usb stick ?

I had a similar problem with my laptop. Luckily it has 3 jacks - 2 headphones and one mic so I just used the other headphone jack. I've used the USB soundcards things and they worked fine. Get a decent one if you get one because I got a cheap one online and it was in pieces after a few hours.

Buy a USB Sound card and a proper mixer to run it off. I run Ableton through a Maya44 and then through my mixer. I then listen off the mixer outputs.

Your laptop or any laptop jack for that matter, is not up to the job of DJing or using Ableton.
