    Hi all,

I will be moving to Kilcock later in the year, and I would like to know if Kilcock train station has a smart card reader?

Nope, only stations in the Dublin short hop zone are on the epurse smartcard system

    Fares http://www.irishrail.ie/news_centre/news.asp?action=view&news_id=980

Annual tickets are issued as a smartcard but do not need to tag on/off http://taxsaver.ie/Ticket-Types/Rail-point-to-point-tickets/

ok, thanks - I was mainly worried about my annual ticket not being tagged on/off, and possibly being done for "fare evasion"

To be clear a smartcard endorsed "Dublin Short Hop Zone" is not valid to/from Kilcock

It would have to be a point to point annual with the to/from stations endorsed on it

So having the 66 no longer serve Kilcock puts it outside the "short hop" zone, or is the situation older than that...? Used to be that the "Commuter Ticket" (as Dublin District division called it in their advertising) allowed you to travel to any railway station within the reach of the city bus network, which is why it was always valid to Balbriggan, and could be used to travel to Kilcoole station when it reopened.

The outer stations for the rail commuter tickets were always Maynooth and Balbriggan and Greystones but you could go to Kilcock on the bus as at the time it was not served by commuter trains.

Annual tickets don't need to be tagged-on/off. You merely need to use it to get through the barriers.
