Long time lurker, first time poster.

Has anyone any experience of the Sure shot 8850? If so what do they think of it?

I can get one for £120 from a UK website, is this a good price?

    Thanks

I paid €250+ for my one and it is great. The only complaint I have is that the maps on some courses are slightly off, especially courses that have changed in the last couple of years.

You will probably have to upgrade your membership so that it can store more than 3 courses on the device.

In hindsight, I probably should have bought a range finder rather than a GPS.

I have the 8800 and I find it great. On my home course I was able to map it myself even though they had it on the database. I paid much more than you'e being asked so if thats a reliable site, then its a great price.

Thanks for the replies. I have checked their website and my course is 'professionally mapped' in June last year so will hopefully be accurate enough.

How accurate do you find it?

Myksyk- do you know if there is much difference between the 8800 and 8850 as is a 8800 going very cheap on ebay?

I have a rangefinder already so use that from 150 in but want a GPS for hazzards, dog legs etc or when I have no line of sight.

Can't say for sure but I don't think there's a huge difference. Certainly the 8800 does everything I need. As I say it allows you to further enhance your own course mapping. So for example my course was mapped but certain distances to boundaries, trees etc were missing so I just put them in. Its very responsive and updates distances immediately as you walk and has always had a + or - 1m accuracy for example with the on-course markers. It also tracks certain stats for you and allows you to calibrate your club distances. I find it great especially when playing courses I don't regularly play.

I downloaded the new firmware for the sureshot 8850 GPS a few days ago, and it actually makes the device a lot more useful. It also appears a lot quicker in acquiring a GPS signal.

It has some new functionality, including a proper scoring feature, which now calculates stableford scores. It also saves progress of games automatically, a major problem for me in the previous version of the software. I accidentally turned it off and lost my scoring on a few occasions.
