Can anybody tell me how commomnplace it is for the management committee to have their membership fees waived while they are on committee.
I recently came across a club where this happens. I was surprised as I have been involved in a number of clubs over the years and this is the first time that I came across this waiver.

That sounds insane!! The main reason why a lot of people will get involved in the committee will be to have their membership fees waived. It sounds unfair as I would imagine a click will develop where the same heads are on the committee every year and people who may genuinely want to contribute to the club may not get the opportunity as the committee will rarely change? Is this how it is?

It sounds very unusual alright, and completely wrong IMO. Going on committee should be a volunteer service if you like, not a way of gaining benefit. If they need something, have a free dinner at the end of the year or something. In these times to be waiving fees is crazy.

I think most clubs waive fees for the Captains and President, which is fair enough but thats about it.

I've heard of clubs offering a reduced rate to commitee members, but free membership is ludicrous for the reasons already given. Others give expenses which i've no real issue with - within reason obviously.

My experience of commitees is that you get 2 or 3 guys doing all the legwork and then a few who are simply on the commitee for the status.

I have never heard of committees en block having either their membership waived or reduced.

I have come accross clubs who waive the sub for their captains. And in one case the President, and in that case the president was an honorary gesture given people who had already put in many years of committee service.

Ours give free sub to president, captains, ladies & gents secretary, treasurers and hcap/comp secs. Definitely a few doing the jobs for the free fees, Bit of a racket, really
