there is an annoying loud squeeking noise coming outta my 2000 seat inca, i thought it was the altenator belt but checked it and its not slipping, loose etc, it starts when van is cold starting and i noticed it most not be charging the battery as when lights or on they are dim, wipers slow etc so must be down to the altenator? Is there anything i can do to mend it to stop the squeeking noise?

A belt can still slip when it appears tight :) New belt would be worth a shot if you are into doing it yourself. Otherwise trip to the garage is needed.

And if the belt is really not the culprit, then the next suspect is the alternator bearing on its way out and getting sticky ...which makes it harder to turn, which makes the belt slip, which produces the squeal...tight belt or not.

You'd want that seen to pretty soon though before it seizes altogether.

Did you put the belt on? Spin the alternator with the belt off.
