Problem connecting to 3g on Voda?

    Hi lads,

    Just posting this on behalf of my friend.
    He's having some trouble connecting to 3g on his Iphone 4 with vodafone.

    Basically, we compared both my phone and his phone to see if they were roughly the same speed at browsing the internet and watching youtube videos etc.

    While mine will connect straight away without any problems, his will either NOT connect at all, or when it does it's extremely slow.. :confused:

    I heard that if you put the phone into Airplane mode, then revert back to normal, the phone finds and connects to the nearest mast straight away. (Handy if you've lost 3g)

    When we both do this with our phones, he still has the same problem, even though we're connected to the same mast.

    Any ideas what might be causing this?
    Quick look through his settings and he has the following:

    His Phone : My Phone
    Firmware: 4.0.1 : 4.2.1
    Vodafone Carrier: Voda IE 7.1 : 9.0
    Modem Firmware: 01.59.00 : 03.10.01

    Anyone know of a way to update carrier and firmware without applying 4.2.1... Doesn't want to loose his jailbreak :)
