    Hi,
Anyone going to the Tullamore Dew this year.
It'll be my first year going but I've heard plenty of good things about it so I'm looking forward to it.
I wonder if it's just choc-a-bloc with bandits or is the good links setup a leveller?
    Yours etc,
    GSH.

Garda Horgan, this is a great tournament held in June each year although its on a week later due to some U.K. Ladies Amateur Championship the week before. I submitted my entry along with 9 other members from my Club this week. I first played in this event in 1993 and haven't missed out in 28 years in what has always been known as The BlackBush Tournament until recently when Tullamore Dew came on board.
Up until recently the organizers had over 1,100 competitors from all over the world, its probably down to 750/800. In answer to your question re bandits from my experience the majority are genuine golfers trying to play well on the day and up to enjoy the craic and night life in the local watering holes e.g. The Anchor Bar Portstewart and Kelly's Hotel in Portrush. Of course you have players up with the intention of winning but I can tell you trying to get a score around Castlerock ( tight fairways/savage rough) Valley course ( long 2 nd shots) and the front 9 on Portstewart and last but not least Ballycastle ( looks short and easy, don't be surprised or broken when you score 25points around here!!). Enjoy the week.you will be back again in 2012!

    Ya,
    Can't wait.
I won't get time to practice as I've a medal to play on the 12th and that will prove tough going first time around.
I've not played those courses before, but I'm also looking forward to getting back to Ballyliffen for a round on the rest day. Thats another lovely track.
    Yours in golf,
    GSH.

Anyone got a link to explain to the rest of us exactly what this is and how we might enter?

    http://www.tullamoredewgolf.com/

    Also here.
For us down here it's about 190 sterling to enter.

If you know someone up there then it's handy to kip there. Otherwise if there are groups going up then renting a house or B&B might be an option.

    GSH.

My group stay in the Cromore Halt Inn in Portstewart, great Ulster Fry is served up in the morning's,a wee late night bar to help you sleep so your not thinking about how your going to play the next day!! There are plenty of houses for renting in the area. My advice is to stay in the Portstewart area if your looking for accommodation.

Just 2 weeks to go. Looking forward to it, but the wind over the last month or 2 is shocking. It's going to be very tough up there. Everyone likes to think of themselves as being a good wind player, but I think this will suit those who play links as their local club week in and week out. Tough for those who hit a high ball like me. I'll have to de-loft my wedge to 30 degrees!
