Tutankhamun - according to RDS website http://www.rds.ie/cat_event_detail.jsp?itemID=821137 it runs from February 17th to July 24, however http://www.kingtutdublin.ie states "17 February 2011 for a limited run". I wonder is that because they want people to go in the quieter off season or will the exhibition be cancelled early if visitors numbers are low?

Never thought of that. Will go early in case.

It seems all the artefacts are replicas:
"Replicas of 1,000 burial artefacts ... have been painstakingly reproduced to scale by expert Egyptian craftsmen and can be viewed in the recreated burial chambers and in an extensive and detailed display"

The idea behind the exhibition is that everything is set up as though you have entered the tomb, and you can wander around and take a look at everything. If the artefacts weren't replicas, they'd have to be in cabinets and cases.
one stunning replica after another displayed in such a way as to allow visitors to explore – and occasionally touch – the pieces as thoroughly as possible.

Clicked on this forum by accident, didn't know it existed!!

For what it's worth I love that whole Egyptian history piece, saw Tut's tomb (Luxor) and original pieces in Cairo museum, serious stuff, very inspiring. The country is like one giant open museum in places, probably the best holiday I've ever had, such an experience.

I went with my school and I thought it was alright but the prices of some of the stuff at the end was unreal 4.90 for a pen

Does it take long to get through it all I can only make it there for half six and would hate to have to rush as I know it closes at half 7

To be honest I thought the King Tut show in the RDS was a bit of a disappointment. I mean it was 6e for parking and then another 16e to get in, and we were there literally an hour and half, and thats only cos im a geek and wanted to read everything and listen to most of the commentary. I mean I thought the background to the whole Egyptian Pharos was weak, and yes I am aware it was all about King Tut, but I thought a bit more background information wouldnt have gone astray. The presentation of the replica artifacts was pretty good, I mean there were magical pieces, such as the Kings Chair. Other than that, I wasnt particularly impressed.

Dont start me on the souvenir shop...jeeez colossal prices for a pen or a mug. I was just left feeling a small bit wiser about Ancient Egypt, but also quite let cheated. Would i recommend it?? Eh for the price, I think you could be better off just googling about King Tut to be honest.

Just what I suspected all along really. Thanks.

You'd have loads of time in an hour.

We visited his tomb in the Vally of Kings and Queens, it and the other tombs were just an absolute marvel and a credit to their civilization...
The Luxor area is just amazing..

Sadly I won't get to the RDS exibition....

Heading to this at the weekend, extremely excited! I've always been fascinated by Ancient Egypt.

I was at this to today and I have to it was terrible. Your given headphones and sent on your way asked to watch a couple of short videos then shown the 'tomb' which is just dark room with replicas. It's a small exhibition and EVERYTHING is replicas.

Couldn't recommend this to anyone and I actually have an interest in this sort of thing.

went with my five year old son a couple of weeks ago because he is big into King Tut, pyramids etc.... he really enjoyed it, we spent two hours in it, as for the shop, i picked up a couple of books for him which i was delighted with as i had searched in Waterstones, Easons Wise Owl etc for age appropriate books for him....not at all bad for me!!
