thieving b******s - we don't even have a health service in this third world country of ours. Time to switch to Aviva or elsewhere.

Just switch. But u can guarantee the rest of them will follow.

What a wonderful country this is. Shame that the government didn't have a role in VHI....

We're becoming like the USA, where only the rich can afford healthcare, and the poor just get sick and die.

Fianna Fail WERE in fact behind all of this, as they injected zilch into healthcare during the last decade, hence leaving Ireland like the European equivalent of Zimbabwe.

We are far too complacent in this country to accept this.

Exactly as Mary Harney wants it, only difference here is people with private healthcare still have to sit in A&E for hrs/days to be seen.

By the end of the 4 year "plan" all the co location private hospitals will be empty and the adjoining public hospitals will be bursting with the sick.

45% increase-Fianna fail better not tell us that the cost of living is falling!!

simple solution - Dont pay it .... I know I wont be renewing mine...not even going to bother switching to another - its something I think I will run the risk instead .... if (heaven forbid) I get sick....I know I have the support of family and friends.

if enough people withdraw then they will have to reconsider their price structure....or goto the wall.

how has this anything to do with news and media? apart from that fact their reporting it

I know of a guy in the UK who refuses to pay for private healthcare - what he does instead is deposit £200 every month into a higher rate savings account - he's been doing this for years and reckons that he should have enough saved up by now for most medical procedures.

And if he doesn't ever need it, he will end up with a nice nest egg.

again this has nothing to do with news and media... there's a thread in after hours for your anecdotes

Anyone switched or renewed and made specific savings? Can anyone post specific details of this?

I've to start enquiring this week. I'm on Plan B Options and my insurance is going to be nearly €1400 this year. I'm just wondering how willing any other insurance company is going to be to take me on as I have had a few thousand euro worth (10-15k) of medical treatment in the past couple of years, all covered by VHI :(

Heard this on the radio, if work didn't pay it for me I'd switch today.

From all the media releases and news, which primarily focus on the family plans and the plan options, there is no mention of the LifeStage policies (Are these the 60% customers?).

I have tried managing my policy online, but their website refuses to let me in, and I cannot get through to them via email or phone to clarify.

I originally signed the policy for 55e a month for 12 months in Aug 2008, but it has been renewed (without my consent) and increased to 66e, and 70e.

Even with a 15% increase it will still be cheaper than Aviva's alternative by 5e a month, however 80e a month is too much to pay.

Can anyone confirm the % increase in the First Plan Plus options?

This sort of stuff was back in the day when company's actually cared about there staff. In Tesco myself, I get **** all , they barely pay me anything. Now if I was say Pre 1995 or even on a pre 1997 contract . Oh your in the €€€.

My father , in Cadburys sure he is retired now and they still have the whole family on cover with the VHI.

Yeah, have VHI, but work pays for it. Otherwise, like Biko above, I would switch asap, due to the increases.
