Rover 414 Immobilizer issue, help needed!

    Hi Guys,

Before christmas, i had an issue with my car, the immobilizer wouldnt turn off after we replaced the starter motor. I got a guy out who gave me an immobilizer fob and all seemed fine.

Over the last few days ive noticed that its taking my car a couple of seconds to kick in when i turn the engine on, i assumed the battery was on its way out. This morning the car engine wouldnt turn over, the radio and so forth worked but i think the battery is weak etc. But when i opened the bonnet to check that the battery cables were in place ( they were fine, nothing was touched) i closed the bonnet and now the immobilizer key wont work, its not even registering anything when i press the buttons.

My question is, if i jump start the battery, is that something that will fix this? i will get a new battery for the car, when i can afford it, im just worried that im gonna need a new immobilzer fob, and i dont have 200 euro for a new one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Unlock the car from the drivers door with the key, then repeatedly press the lock button on the fob. It normally takes between 2 and 6 presses of the button, when the fob regains synchronisation the car will lock, job done.

Providing car battery and fob batteries are fine that should do the trick.

BTW, who did you get the new fob from ??
Also seems a bit funny that your battery is now gone a few weeks after a starter motor issue, might be coincidense but are you sure your last starter was fecked ?

Thanks mate, i will try that when i get home. I assume that the starter motor may not have needed to be initially replaced and its the actual battery. It was replaced because the car clicked when i tried to turn it on and the garage suggested i buy a new starter.

So if i jump the battery and try what you suggested, that should work? because i rang the guy i got the fob from, and he said the car could have dropped the code from the fob and its an electrics issue????

But the battery defo was fecked this morning, the radio would turn on but i dont think there was enough power to kick the engine in, it clicked again

Oh and i got the fob from Autokey. Dont get me wrong, they were fantastic, and he did try and help over the phone, i just cant afford another 200 for a new fob

If the battery goes fully dead (which it might when you are trying to start the car) the fob can lose sync with it. In this case the fob may well have not lost sync but the battery may be completely dead.

Cool, the battery is defo not fully dead, the immoblizer red light even still shows, fingers crossed your tip works mate.

    Thank you for that!!

Don't thank me, that wasn't my suggestion at all :pac:
Glad you got her sorted though.
Just keep a weekly eye on the coolant level in that 414 ;)
