Do Dell batteries last that long ?

I got a new battery for my laptop over a year go, and today i got a message on my desktop saying battery is now reaching end of its useful life.

I work 9-5 so dont use my laptop until I come home and at weekends, did not think I would need a new one so fast.

Ive ran through a couple of dell batterys on my laptop alright, i started taking out the battery if im using at home plugged in, it tends to last longer that way as its not charging the battery all the time i found.

Ive my dell laptop for nearly years and it holds its battery charge for a decent amount of time still, it's a 9 cell battery by the way.

    Hi Rebel1977,
If you need to buy a new battery, make sure you get a genuine dell replacement. Don't buy any of the cheap batteries from China - my experience is that they are not worth it.

Any tips for prolonging the lifetime of the battery ?

    Anyone use laptopbattery.ie?

Not sure about them, their address is Dublin and their site is in £stg?

Looking for a battery for an inspiron 1525 and this seems to be about a third of the price of one from Dell.

From what I can see they say original replacement batteries
and also mention original manufacturer batteries on one of the banners indicating they are genuine dell parts...

A little digging shows they are part of A1technologies Limited which also have a site called repairtech.ie offering computer repairs etc...

I'd be curious to know if they'd legit too - the prices on the Dell website are a ripoff. €140 I'm being quoted for a 6-cell (not 9-cell) replacement for my XPS 1530; for about €400, I could have bought a fairly high spec new Dell laptop while I was in Malaysia...

It's crazy to have to pay 140 Euro for a battery for a laptop which could now be worth less than 300 Euro.

Batteries have a set no of times they can recharge, so removing the battery if you have it plugged in permanently or docked, is a good idea.

I had an overheating issue with my Inspiron laptop (caused by a clogged fan outlet) which definately effected my battery life.

In the end, I bought a 9-cell battery from Ebay for around 20 Euro. I bought it last April or May, and it is still working well, I would get about 100 mins out of it with heavy use. A lot of them though will only last 3 months - it all depends on the quality of the cells.

When it starts to degrade again, I'm going to open up my original battery and replace the cells - they are just rechargable batteries soldered together. There are guides and videos online which explain in detail how to do this. If you do this, buy good quality cells, otherwise you will need to do it again after a few months.

The only thing is that people are saying in the comments that this battery is giving them 2.5 to 3 hours of battery. They are happy with it but it is supposed to be a 9 cell battery and my 9 cell battery in my Vostro 1000 gives me about 7 hours.
Surely there should not be 4 hour difference.

So unless the power requirements of the Vostro 1000 are lower than their laptops.

Would you not recommend this so and am I better off buying it from dell direct

I would second this - it's a complete false economy - most likely (from experience :( ) they will not work at all or hold a crap charge. The official ones are expensive but unfortunately are the only way to go really.

As others said, stick with the real ones. If the ones from the link I posted are indeed genuine then it might be the place to go.

Steer clear of these guys - complete Scumbag gangsters - waited 6 weeks and then tried to get a refund - kept hanging up the phone - very abusive phone manner.

www.battery-supplier.co.uk are great to deal with and quite cheap too.

I bought a laptop battery for a Dell Studio 1735 from China and it was a dud. Got a refund but had to pay for shipping back so I was at a loss- I'd only go direct to Dell.

My nearly 3 year old Inspiron died today. It shows no sign of life even with cable connected, will not turn on. It was working away fine and still giving good battery time on a larger (9cell?) battery that I ordered with it. No warning about it about to fail?

I did not realise you could remove a battery and still work off cable. Agh big decision whether to spend money on it or replace but first to retrieve information from it. I presume all can be salvaged from the hardrive. Lesson = do proper back up regularly and invest in external hardrive :o

    Hi,

You could always remove the hard drive in the laptop and buy one of those external drive housings ( about €15 ) and you end up with the laptop drive as an external USB drive - thats what we did with the boss's laptop here -
Worked a treat and he copied his my docs etc..etc... in his own time.

Thanks for tip... will pass on to more competant members of family! I was charged a fair whack for retrieving data off this laptop two years ago. It had plain tea spilt on it and 'died'. He told me it was a lost cause, motherboard gone etc ...( I had done the hot press for a week and no joy). It was parked under a bed after that for 6 months and was about to 'recycle' it when lo and behold it turned on magically and no trouble in past 18 mths.:) Pure habit to turn it on as was about to pass it on to someone for parts.

battery on my Dell 1525 is dead and not holding charge for very long anymore. Its not a major problem as I can easily use on cable but should I take out the battery and discard it or is it better to keep the battery in to protect the connections from dust, etc.
