    hey,

just a quick one, as the title says i was made redundant in november. I had always thought that because my employent ceased within a tax year i was due back any tax i paid for that year.

It seems as though this is not the case? the tax office advised that because it happened in november and not mid year or early in the year im only due a small amount back.

Can anyone explain this a bit better?

    Cheers guys

if you were paying tax at the standard rate, you will get the unsused weekly/monthly tax credits from November and December back

If you were paying at the higher rate, you could get more back by being pushed down below the cut off for december but it will all depend on your individual cirumstances with regards to credits and standard cut off point
