I love the way the DM go on about it as being a disgrace to censor a word from a book by referring to it as the "N" word and "n***r". Hypocrisy much?

PC hasn't gone too far. The very concept of PC was a step too far in the first place. Where once common sense and the notion of propriety were arbiters of what should and should not be said, now the shrill hysteria of whoever can shriek the loudest dictates public discourse.

I don't think people should be prevented from making tits of themselves in that way.

From the article: A new edition replaces the 'N word' with 'slave'

And in 50 years they ll write the damn thing again in order to replace "slave" with "unvoluntary personal assistent"

    Idiots.

Had a bit of a smile myself at that. Will they start using B word in case they offend all the illegitemate children that they regularly complain about.

It is not about political correctness, it is about wiping western culture off the map.

Its the daily mail. Why do people read that rag!

I think that edit is rediculous but I also love when people get up in arms sayin stuff like 'you cant even call the blacks níggers any more, its just political correctness gone mad!'

With all our advancement in culture and technology it's strange and annoying that we seem to be going backwards in what people need to be told not to do in case you create an emotional response from somebody else.

The piss was truly taken when, after more than 50 years of being okay, someone decided to cut bits and pieces out of the Tom & Jerry cartoons so as not to have a violent influence or *SHOCK* *HORROR* to have our precious little kids take up smoking after a scene where Tom smoothly rolls up a smoke to show off to a female.

Which is worse, the hysterical outcry from these "saviours" of society or the gobshìtes that let them get away with it and bow to their wild assumptions?

    Bastards!!

I read it online for the sport-it's a great aggregator of news on your football club. Plus I geat a giggle from reading some of the crazy comments on their articles (some seriously deluded people out there).

Even so,the censoring of classic novels is crazy.Am open too correction but weren't some nursery rhymes changed and some characters dropped from kids books such as Noddy?

PC is gone too far yes - poll isn't even needed because the only people who'd vote NO are the people who just want to be awkward and funny by trying to skew the poll results:rolleyes:

As for this example - at the time described in the book people regularly called black people nigers and it was seen as acceptable - therefore any literature around based at that time is obviously going to incorporate that - just like if your watching a film based in the 1500s the actors won't be going round wearing jeans and tshirts - it's all part of the context of the story...

course the PC brigade wouldn't want to hear this part of the argument or they might seem like complete gob****es:rolleyes:

true. changing classic novels in this regard is crazy. classic novels like huck finn are not simply stories but part history book which give you a window into the attitudes of the time and place in which its set. Removing that word from a puplication is offensive as it removes reference to something which quite rightly embarasses white america.

nursery rhymes and fairy tales im less concerned with

theres really nothing to connect those two. anyway you see plenty of movies where people are wearing the wrong clothing. Braveheart for example is set in the 14th century and theyre wearing kilts. nothing to do with political correctness at all, but expectaions and these are not a concern when dealing with classic 19th century novels

But what about Baa Baa Coloured Sheep?...Or is it African American Sheep? This PC stuff has my mind melted.

There were complaints over the Christmas Top Gear due to the 3 lads wearing Burkhas in Jordan, they said it was offensive. The guys did it in a Muslim country and nobody there complained, however the PC brigade in England jumped on it along with the gag of putting baby Stig in the crib.

They did? You're sure the Mail didn't just ask the head of a militant Islamist party for his opinion and then say 'Joke causes offence' in the headline...

You can't say the word God on American daytime television. So yes it has gone too far.

Another example of how it's gone too far happened about three years ago. There was an advertisement where Vinnie Jones lured a bird to his house under the pretense of giving him food. The bird then split his head off of the window and Vinnie Jones laughed. Loads of people complained about this and it was taken off the air. I love birds and would have agreed with it being taken off the air except for the fact that it was an animated bird. Seriously, enough people complained about cruelty to an imaginary bird to get an advertisement taken off the air.

Another example is Celebrity Big Brother a couple of years ago. Some z list celebrity from a half forgotten girl group says something racist and the world goes into shock.

Is that baa baa black sheep thing actually true though? or is it one of those nonsense daily mail stories like the one about europe regulating the bendyness of bananas against the will of brits.

yes, you will always have spanners. how many actually complained about the top gear thing, a very small minority compared to their overall viewership which is in the millions ill bet.

People like to complain, and there are serial complainers who will give out about everything, not just from this imaginary 'PC brigade' but people who think that the only time they can say anything is if its giving out about something. Just read the comments on articles or the letters pages in papers.
