I have solar hot water from a 300 litre tank, I was thinking of using this hot water to feed into the electric shower through a thermostatic valve, the idea is that the shower is using less power to heat already hot water or use the cool function in the shower with the thermo valve set to a comfortable temp to shower in. have you any feedback on this??

I would not recommend it, you would be better off changing the instantaneous electric shower to a pumped mixer shower supplied with both hot and cold.

The instantaneous shower most likely has only 1 or two power settings and is designed for a cold supply only. If you supply it with preheated water from your solar store then you will not be able to regulate the temperature at the shower. Instantaneous showers regulate temp by varying the amount of water flowing through the heating element, so this adjustment will have no effect on temp if the water is hot already.

In theory you could do what you are suggesting with the thermostatic mixing valve, and disconnect the heating element in the shower, but tbh if you are willing to go to the trouble of installing a thermostatic mixing valve you might as well do the job right and install the correct type of shower unit.

You can't do it with an instantaneous electric shower

The industry offers some electric showers certified for the usage with pre-heated water.
Search the www. for your " brand + solar " and see what is on offer.

Check for your existing type the manual, as long as the max. infeed temperature is not exceeded and the min. pressure kept it should be save to use. So why not making use of it ?
