Howdy folks am a committee member in a Gaa club (junior hurling) and was wondering what do clubs do to raise funds in these tough times. Would anybody out there have any money making ideas which they would like to tell us about.

    Hi,

Usual things around here would be Poker Classics, Lotto's, Magazine Sales, couple of years ago there was a duck race that was popular.

Personally, I would be getting the younger members of the clubs involved, make them feel part of the club rather than just players, something like car washes, or sponsored runs or something like that, reward them with a disco or something afterwards, just an idea

Monaghan Utd just did a version of "Take me out". Cleared €28k on the night. My Dad's club went round every house in the parish looking for €250 a year for 4 years and you'll never hear from us again. They got 200 houses signed up. No gimmicks or prizes, just basically- you live here and so will your kids please help us provide facilities for them. I think this worked because it was a rural club where GAA is the focal point of the community.

Also, if you have a hall or nearby hotel a version of "Stars on their eyes" can be an annual money spinner.
The basic rule for fund raising in the current economic climate is to get a lot of people to give you a little money. The days of the €100 ticket are gone.

A race night down the local pub always works a treat we find in my local club.

i hear "Take me out " is a real money spinner. white collar boxing is also a good way of fundraising.

Just wondering magi was that 250 a year for each year of the 4 , as in 1000 euro total ?

That's correct. €20.84 per month per household. They divided the parish up and planned who would be best to go to which house. They got €100 from houses where they thought they would get run out the door. It did mean eating a bit of ****, but frankly they (Latton O'Rahilly's) have a committee with a great attitude and the interest of the club at heart.
Anyone want more detail on "Take Me Out" can PM me, I know the bloke who did it in Monaghan. Hope I don't get in trouble over this:)

A few clubs in Monaghan did "Hunt for a Hunk", didn't see it myself but I was talking to a committee member from Blayney and he was telling me that not only did it make great money- crowd of 500 but it wasn't the normal punters that they always get.
I think all clubs are going to have learn that race nights, table quizzes will only raise the expected amount or even a bit less but a bit of invention and originality can appeal to a wider section and really open the flood gates.

Where are you based? We are looking at the possibility of having a brainstorming session and inviting a few clubs along to share ideas etc.

In relation to fundraising we have done 2 Auction nights which were very successfull. All donations are free and consist of signed memorabilia, Jerseys Hurls, Gifts, vouchers literally anything that people might bid on. They range from low value items to high value items so there is something there for everyone. Entry is free on the night and there is no compulsion on anyone to buy. (pm me if you require further info or assistance as I was an organiser).

Another idea we are looking at is a sponsored clean up of the area. ie picking up litter, painting over graffitti. cut grass etc and then collecting money on the day. (any views welcome)

having the same trouble in our own club following our AGM the other night! The fact that so many players are emigrating doesn't help the interest or the club/locality population!

ANYWAY upwards and onwards...any ideas on what company's might be interested in sponsoring a club kit for ladies GAA team? Or how do you go about sorting out a deal?

    Thanks !

One of the local GAA Clubs here in waterford, St Saviours run a great fundraiser called the Y-BOTHER FACTOR... It's a piss take of the x factor they run like a semi final with 12 acts in a local function hall charging 5 euro a ticket easily 200 hundred people there, and then 8 of these acts go thru to final in a local hotel in the city where i think holds up to 360 people at 5 euro a ticket.. now the best part is each act goes thru on money raised by themselves and on votes they receive on the night, a vote costs 2 euro and if ya spend 10 euro on votes for same act they geyt an extra one , everyone has a great crack and obviously people wanna go to final so they raise money it's the best way i'v ever seen to raise money.. they even have the judges dressed up and like i said exactly like x factor it's brilliant fun..

Brilliant idea! Fair play! No reason why any club couldn't do this. As I said the best fundraisers are those that give some entertainment and ask a little money from a lot of people.
