Good picks, can't go wrong with those four and it's a very strong line up!

i think king should have been picked. One of the best players in the league over the last couple of years. Finalist 2 years ago and semi finalist last year. I'd say he's fairly pissed he wasn't selected!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Say he is annoyed but based on the order of merit and recent form the above deserve it more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,984 ✭✭✭Degag

I think King deserves to be there more than Jenkins, but i guess if they picked Webster then they had to pick Jenkins too. Come to think of it... has Webster done much in the last year besides getting to the semis at the Worlds and second in the World Cup?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,286 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Jenks is 6th in the order of merit and deserves his place.

If anyone should feel hard done by its probably Baxter who might feel he should have gotten Websters place.

I think they picked the right eight.

Baxter and King have every right to be a bit miffed. King however, is not a crowd favourite and has been in VERY poor form lately. It's make or break for the King now. I say get rid of your silly little beard for a start!

Ronnie Baxter is one of my favourite players. On form over the year he has a real case to be there. He has provided good memories for the Premier League and he's definitely a general crowd pleaser too. HOWEVER. Realistically, I dont think he is capable of winning the Premier League where as Mark Webster is IMO. I worry for Baxter now as at nearly 49 it would seem his Major title has eluded him. Coming off the back of a thumping at the Worlds and losing his place in the Premier League will not be easy for the Rocket.

Jenkins is Jenkins. What can you say. He's never going to win it either. But at the same time it would be harsh to exclude him on the OOM standings.

Out of the 8 I would say that anyone bar Jenks could realistically win the whole thing. I've never been able to say that before , so they must be doing something right!

Shame Barney got the pick, he was always going to though

I actually thought there was an outside chance that Barney might exclude himself - he showed such little enthuasiasm for it last year that I thought he mightn't be arsed at all this year. I guess its probably too lucrative to turn down.

20k to turn up for 14 weeks and 125k to the eventual winner

though just looking at the stats

James Wade has made the last 3 finals but the first final he was in was first to 16, the second first to 13 and the last one first to 10

Anyone know whats up with the declining leg count in the big final?

Hard to disagree with any of those picks. Webster played great and beat Taylor in the World Championship and played very well against Lewis. Whitlock has been playing great and can hit 180's for fun. Barney is just a great player and Jenkins played well in the Worlds but just couldn't overcome one of Anderson's good days.

I'd say it was between Newton and Jenkins for the last spot. The fact Jenkins has been up there for so many years most likely got him that spot along with beating Newton in the quarters.

All the rumours are that Scott Waites got offered a wildcard but turned it down due to him staying in the BDO hence it going to jenkins.. You never know what to believe??

what sort of a egit is he?
he could make a fortune in the pdc

great line up but **** barney he is a waister now, theres more hungrier players that want to play should have being picked

No sir, you are the idiot. Barney was beaten by the best player at the Worlds. Yes, Anderson was the best player throughout the tournament. Barney only missed the OOM by a few thousand pounds due to Lewis and Anderson being in the World final. Are you off the head ? Next you'll be saying Taylor's had a bad WC so leave him out, oh yeah he's 50 as well get rid. Clown

no sir you are the idiot. Barney had a shocking 2010 and in every tournament he has looked disinterested and played ****, with the exception of the matchplay. it may have been anderson who beat him but barney struggled to get even that far and based on current form barney would not have beaten anyone in that last eight. if you seriously think barney deserves his place in the PL then you are having a laugh. he is a crowd pleaser and a crowd favourite and thats why they have kept him in it.

Lads less of the name calling, you can make your point without doing it. That's two infractions (warnings) in two posts now. Cut it out, it only makes you look childish. if someone calls you a name then report the post and I will deal with it, don't stoop to their level.

Interesting point towards Barney though, his seeding in most tournaments usually gives him an easy enough path to at least the quarters, but he hasn't seemed all that interested over the past 18 months. I really don't think he can cope with the amount of players that have upped there game to what he did at his peak. He hasn't risen to the challenge the way taylor has.

Taylor goes to a load of the pro tour events, to stay sharp, Barney rarely if ever does that. I like Barney and would love to see get the bit between his teeth again! So his place should be at least questioned!

At least Whitlock has won a load of tournaments this year, Jenkins has shown some real fight in the last 6 months and has had to overcome tough draws. Webster was a defeated semi-finalist two years in a row at the Worlds and single almost single handedly got Wales to the World Cup final.

It was announced in the Ally Pally at the final that Taylor would be playing whoever won the World Championships on the opening night in the O2. This was to try and get people to buy tickets as they were selling them in the Ally Pally.

Totally agree, makes me sad hes doesnt seem to be able to get back to the glory days of 105 averages. His head is just fried, starting to doubt if we'll ever see 2007 Barney again.

its a shame cos it looked like the old barney was back in the matchplay but losing to taylor again really hit him badly mentally and seemed to destroy the little confidence he had regained.
he needs to opt out of the PL and take some serious time off or we will never see the real barney again
