Has anyone completed/doing this course at the minute?

Would like to get some inside information about the course, there's only so much you can read on the internet!

    Any help would be great

Haven't done the Children's Literature MA but studied English at St. Pat's at undergrad and postgrad level. On the BA English course there was a module on 'The Child in the Book' which dealt with children's lit and lit based on childhood from the 19th century to present and it was really interesting aswell as being very well presented. I've heard some good reports about the MA in CL and would possibly have done it myself had it been a full time course.

Also, the English Department at St. Pat's is great - its small and there is a sense of support and camaraderie that is maybe more difficult to find in some of the bigger university English departments.
Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for your reply. Just curious, I assume by 'postgrad level' you engaged in a research masters, seeing as they only offer 2 english masters in St.Pat's?

From what I've read, it seems that 15 is the maximum number of students in each class, so the intimate environment would be a really good thing.

Like you said, it would be better if the course was fulltime, but at this point i'd like to go for it anyway.

If you don't mind me asking, are you a primary/secondary school teacher? If so, did you find your postgraduate english studies helped in anyway when it comes to teaching?

I'm a PhD student but I did my MA elsewhere. I'm a secondary school teacher and I found the learning that I gained from my MA quite useful at times in the classroom and also in terms of extra-curricular activities.

I think in and around fifteen places is standard for these types of MA. In my MA group there were sixteen and it was fantastic. But anyway, I've mostly all good things to say about St. Pat's and the teaching/facilities/campus atmosphere etc etc.

Same as myself - torn between Children's Literature or wait a year or two and do an M.Ed. Didn't apply for anything unfortunately. There's a few variations of the M.Ed with different specialisms, could be interesting to look at.
