Faulty Alternator

I was driving before christmas when my car died, i had no warning lights on so thought it was a faulty battery. Just replaced the battery yesterday and the car started up but the battery (alternator!) light is on so i presume the battery just wasn't getting charged.

I'm going to check it now with a meter to see if the output from the alternator is ok which i presume would indicate wiring?

Assuming a faulty alternator what would be the best option, a local mechanic or an auto-electrician? Would anybody be able to recommend anyone in the south dublin area? I work in tallaght

Thanks in advance for any advice

I went to a place called Almax when I had the same problem last year, details in this thread here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=63687969

Worryingly though, the same problem happened for about 5 seconds just about a week ago, hasn't occurred again since, maybe it's because I hadn't used the Astra in a while during the cold snap though?
