Handbrake down but not off.

    Hi folks,

Just as the title says. I tried driving off earlier but when I tried taking off, it felt as if the handbrake was still on, even though I released it. This also happened two or three weeks ago, but little rocking back and forth released it.

At the time I figured the cold weather had something to do with it. Now I'm not so sure as it hasn't been that cold for a few days. The car won't budge the slightest so I'm stuck for now. Any ideas what it could be?

Just in case it's important, I hadn't driven the car in about 3 days.

Normally giving it a good rocking hard back and forth should release it, but if it's on that tight you could actually do damage to the brakes... Have you breakdown assist?

Only other option is to try rocking it.

Tried giving it a good rocking with no luck. Unfortunately I have no breakdown assistance.

    No, it's a 99 Daewoo Lanos.

Car is downstairs unfortunately, haridryer wont reach. Guess I could just continue rocking it back and forth and hope that works.

Well if it's not cold you can disregard it being frozen, could well be an issue with the shoes or something, do you have breakdown cover ?

Had a mechanic look at it, that helped for a while, but it still happens. No idea what the mechanic did, but I can ask him and find out for you.
Just before christmas he "rocked" it heavily and it broke free and he could drive. Not that I would recommend that, he could just as easily broken something that would cost a lot to fix instead.

That would be like a 100/1 shot who has never ran over 2 1/2 miles going in the National :D

That's what I thought. The first time around I just put it down to the cold weather, but it hasn't really been cold at all for the last week.

No, dont have breakdown cover. I think there's a mechanic about a 10 minute walk down the road from me, might hve to pay him a visit.
