Two adults and one child what will they pay rent from there own pocket on this. Does location number of rooms in house etc factor into it.
any site with info on this ?

Your rent is calculated as a percentage of the income of the family. You dont receive rent allowence,so what ever the rent, its all out of your own pocket.
Outgoings are'nt taken into account either.

Depends on the income as mentioned, I know families paying less than €20/week and they have new cars etc.

You should check out the website of whichever local authority area you are in e.g., here's details of the rent scheme of Dublin City Council. http://www.dublincity.ie/Housing/Rent_Scheme_2010/Pages/RentScheme2008.aspx

renting a council house is expensive if you have a good income here in meath its 20 euro in every 100 you earn aprox so you will get a good idea from that also they only take just over 1 euro off for each child which is ridiculous

My sister in law is on lone parents allowance, with 2 children. She is also in college, studying for a degree (but I'm not sure about the BTE grant etc?) Anyway, she's paying 21euro per week for a three bedroomed house in dublin 5.

My nephew is working f/t, with a wife on disability, and two adult children (twins, 18, and both just out of secondary school with no income) and they are paying 125pw for a 3 bedroomed housed in dublin 13.

It really depends on your circumstances OP.

Appeal that to your local Council. They are considerate enough to benefit recipients. Well worth a try.

I've often wondered what their criteria is for assising the rent they think you should pay.
My husband is unemployed, and I'm a mature student we have 2 children, live in a 3 bed house and are rent is €59.00 p/w.From what I can gather this is more than people reciving rent allowance for private dwellings.

    I'm with Louth Co.Council.
They will be sending out their rent review forms shortly.Last year with the deduction from the budget and austerity budget they reduced my rent by €1.
I'd say it will be similar this year!!!

Dont wait for the rent review forms if you're already down money (everyone is).

I got mine last week,I rang them and asked them when the yearly one would be out and they said November

But,they tell you to inform them straight away of any financial changes!!

depends, if one person is claiming all the payment or both are getting separate payments?
if its separate expect it to be between 30-35 if one is claiming it all expect it to be between 40-60 euro.

I have been told they are changing the system in a year, let's hope it's for the better as there is a lot of boarded up houses around.

there was new legislation released last year and should be in place now, but no council actually know anything.

Have been trying to find info on this for the last year because i thought i read last year that it was coming in to effect in 2013, judging by the following link it appears it will not start until 2015.

It says "regulations will provide for a scheme that includes a minimum base rent to be charged based on household composition with an additional amount
to be charged where net household income exceeds a reckonable income threshold."

"The proposed Minimum Base Rents are as follows:
    Single Adult Household: €30
    Couple : €45
    Additional Adult : €22.50
Adult aged 18-24(on lower SW rate) : €17
Additional rent payable in respect of each child in household: €3"

Just my opinion but I have a feeling that there might be a further reduction in rent allowance in next years budget, whereby they increase the amount that must be paid by the tenant so as to near match these proposals ?

out of curiosity, can anyone explain what "need" is. its one of the requirements to get council housing

    http://www.dublincity.ie/Housing/Home/pages/councilhome.aspx

"Need- You must be in genuine need of housing and be unable to provide accommodation from your own resources"

But then underneath, the income limit as an example for a single person alone (no kids) is 35k a year.

What does this mean? I've probably got it wrong here. But someone on say 30k a year is able to support themselves. Or am I terribly wrong and does this mean if the person is a carer, has a debt problem, or something?

that would be a great new hm?
    thanks for researching this.

I found clerks very uninformed, Can't give you any information back, can't quote rent, can't say anything about the house, where you can get help while moving or getting money for furniture.. nothing. what do the feckers do there?

John Gilligan gives his release address as Corduff Crescent, which is a Local Authority House

Yet his wife lives in Jessbrook, which is where he ended up going.

So who lived/paid for the LA house for 18 years?

No. I pay more than E59 in a private rental on Rent Allowance. Pensioner here. And am glad to have it at that .

If you are tenant of a County Council you have the right to see its Differential Rent Scheme Rates. They may not be too happy to give it to you but, by law, they must.

Is there something in the works to standardise and simplfy this across the country? Or is that something that died a death I wonder?

As a side note, never seen an issue with councils not sharing the literature on differential rent schemes, so I'm annoyed to hear if it is happening.

Differential rent in Dublin has to have more intrinsic value than one in Leitrim, especially in terms of education, hospitals, transport, food, job opportunities, quality of life. It is a really good platform to change your socioeconomic circumstances and give your kids a chance. 30-70 quid for rent in Dublin. I'd say you'd have much higher churn of council houses in Dublin than elsewhere, it would be a hard case to argue that you'd need social housing in Dublin for more than 5 years with all the opportunities to kick on and paddle your own canoe. You wouldn't see the same churn elsewhere though.

Yes I know, this tread is years old now, but also there is a stigma attached to council houses like they are cheap, when in fact you can get a private house and claim rent allowance and it is actually less then a council house, if you working and earning say 600 a week your rent would be about 130 a week..,

Still very cheap. In the private rental market people are paying up to 70% on rent
