Went to see this today in Movies@Swords with my wife and son.
He really enjoyed the original and loved the second one, Arthur and the Revenge of Malthazard, although it did appear to end rather abruptly.

Sitting there, in the dark, the movie began and we were treated, out of the 100 min running time, to a 30min edit/hack job of the second film.
My missus nearly killed me thinking I had brought us all to the second movie all over again, before the edits indicated that something else was going on.

After the first 20/30 mins the movie starts to tell new material, with lots of action and quite well done SFX, matching CG with real actors.

The story is very "french", the dialogue quite odd to ears used to US or UK films.
But the original was the same, odd in the same way that english dubbed Jap movies are odd.

But, it would seem that the hack job didn't end with the first 20/30 mins.
Plenty seems to have been cut from the new material as well, as in it's euro continental release it is 90/100 mins of new stuff, no "previously in Arthur" needed.

This was very irritating, seeing half or so of the film I had paid quite a bit to see,
I could have gone with the family to see Megamind instead, but the movie had really captured my sons heart so I assumed it would have offered some value for money.
Instead we got a direct to video effort, not in terms of money spent on actors or FX, but in term of shocking editing and the false premise of 100 mins of a new movie.

I loved the first one of these but haven't seen the second or third ones yet. Do you know if they're suitable for a 3.5 year old?

    Oh yes, absolutely.
Big scary monsters that hurt no one, bright coloured good guys dressed in leaves and not only will the dialog go over their heads, the bulk of it won't make much sense to you either!

But they are a kind of fun.
Better off waiting for the DVD though...

Cheers, I'll try grab the second one so.
I'll have the advantage of watching it in the original French at least.
