Folks have a crack on the inside of the alloy on my car.

Its an 18" alloy on an ST Mondeo, same as the ST220 and the crack is about 1" long, its right on the edge at the back and its causing a slow puncture.

I have read some people say I should replace it as it can be weak getting a weld done on it.

Been quoted 300 euro for the alloy in a local tire place but I can get it cheaper in UK.

So what do you think, is repairing a good/bad idea? What sort of euros to get this done?

Also since it was a pothole on the main road and I am paying 900 spots per year road tax, will the County Council pay up? ;)

I cant say I know of any guys who repair alloy rims in the Mayo direction as per your location but know of a couple in the Southeast who are well renonwed for repairing rims. Unfortunately, the price of repair might be the bones of the price of a new rim but you will get it back like new or if its beyond repair they wont touch it but no charge...well if their reputable anyway. As I say don't know of any of these guys operating in the Mayo area but sure they exist up there or in Galway. Also, would Traynors breakers yard in Northern Ireland be worth a go I wonder if you haven't tried them already.

As for getting money of the County Council I think that ones a loosing battle to be honest...especially if you cannot pinpoint it to any specific pothole having done the damage. If you got any money out of them (which I doubt) I reckon it would hardly be worth it with the blood pressure it would cause and your life expectancy shortended as a result! Sorry I cannot be of any more help to you.

Thanks lad, I know the hole where it happened alright, been there now for about 6 months but they have passed it up and down now and never done a thing!

I am finding a few places on ST forums there in the UK so hopefully I can get a new or 2nd hand one handy enough.

    Thanks
